Melania Trump warns about the dangers of using social media when she accepts the Woman of Distinction Award
Melania Trump warned of the dangers of using social media on Wednesday and argued for “learning healthy online behavior” when she accepted a prize for her Be Best campaign.
“Technology has become a daily part of our children’s lives, in both positive and negative ways. We live in an era where too many people allowed the number of retweets or would like to determine self-esteem, “the first lady warned in her remarks.
“I am now more convinced than ever that learning healthy online behavior is crucial for a safer future for our children,” she added.

Her warnings about the dangers of online activity come as President Donald Trump – who is in the middle of a four-day trip to the west coast – spends the morning on Twitter retweeting his supporters and attacking Michael Bloomberg, who has become a top target of the president’s online wrath.
President Trump attacked the length of the former mayor of New York City and claimed that he requested a box during the Democratic debate on Wednesday evening in Las Vegas.
The first lady was criticized for advocating cyberbullying while her husband was accused of doing exactly that.
But she said the president can tweet what he wants.
“I don’t always agree with what he’s posting, but his action is his action,” the first lady said in a rare interview with ABC News in October 2018. “And I’ll tell him that.”
Online security is one of the three pillars of the first lady’s Be Best campaign, along with well-being and abuse of opiates.
Melania Trump discussed her characteristic problems when she accepted the ‘Woman of Distinction’ Award from Palm Beach Atlantic University for 2020 during a lunch at The Breakers Hotel in Palm Beach.
She discussed her work with the 550 attendees. She stood on the podium, in front of a large American flag, and spoke with the help of a teleprompter.
“Two years ago I launched Be Best, an initiative to ensure that we Americans do everything we can to take care of the next generation. When we teach our children to cherish our values and care for each other; they are better prepared to continue America’s legacy of compassion and patriotism. It is our duty as adults and parents to ensure that they have the best opportunities to live a satisfying, healthy and successful life, “said the first lady.
Her only mention of her husband came when she talked about her work in the fight against opioid addiction and said it was a matter that she and the president cared very much about.
Melania Trump also pointed out that the United States experienced their first fall in opioid deaths in three decades last year and she credited the Trump government.
“Opioids have affected the lives of more than 2 million children in the United States,” Melania Trump said. ‘I have seen firsthand how opioid abuse affects families struggling with addiction. I have traveled to children’s hospitals and treatment centers that support people affected by opioids. ”
“I am very proud to tell you that for the first time in 29 years the number of deaths from overdose has fallen by more than 4 percent,” she noted. “A testament to the hard work and commitment of this government to fighting the drug epidemic.”

Melania Trump, dressed in a white Brandon Maxwell sheath dress with black trim – which is for sale for $ 1,985 – concentrated her comments on her work on her signature initiative.
She discussed the journeys she made to hospitals and schools to promote programs that tie in with Be Best’s values.
“Since the launch of Be Best, we have been shedding light on programs across the country and beyond, helping us help our youth understand what it means to be the best,” she said.
“I hope that promoting Be Best values will give voice to the concerns and struggles of our children and help them overcome the challenges they face every day,” added Melania Trump.
The first lady began to thank her eight-minute remarks by her parents – Viktor and Amalija Knavs – who were in the audience.
“Thank you for your support and love throughout my life. I will always be grateful for everything you have done for years for our family, “she said to a huge applause.

The university praised the work of the first lady with children when they announced that she received the prize.
‘In her role as First Lady, Mrs. Trump focuses her time on the many problems that concern children. A relentless feature of the First Lady is its aptitude to show love and compassion in everything it does, “said Palm Beach Atlantic University, a private Christian university, in the release.
The private university of West Palm Beach – founded by the Baptist Church in 1968 – usually honors two women each year with the award, dating back to 1991.
However, for the 2020 prize, Melania Trump is the solo honoree.
The school is 10 minutes’ drive from Mar-a-Lago, the home of the Trumps in Florida. The first couple spent President’s Day weekend at the Winter White House.
President Trump returned to Washington D.C on Sunday to attend the wedding of his old assistant Stephen Miller with Katie Waldman, spokesperson for vice president Mike Pence.
Melania Trump stayed in Florida.
The luncheon prize benefits a scholarship fund for female students – two of whom were present on Wednesday to see how the first lady accepted the honor.
Lunch tickets were $ 500 each and it was sold out, a university official told DailyMail.com. The number of tickets sold was not given.

It was a slow start, but grew as Melania Trump became more comfortable in her role as a first lady.
She has visited hospital programs that help babies with neonatal abstinence syndrome, she has attended school programs that focus on kindness; and she has worked with companies such as Microsoft on online security issues.
She has also visited Africa and made various domestic journeys.
