Former first lady Melania Trump revealed Sunday that her husband Donald “let me be who I am” when she wrote about her pro-choice stance in her new memoir.
Donald Trump famously said “I could have killed Roe v. Wade” in 2023 after appointing three Supreme Court justices during his presidency who ultimately tipped the balance in deciding whether women had the right to choose.
In the book, Melania writes that it is “imperative to ensure that women have the autonomy to decide their preference about having children.”

“Yes, he knew my position and my beliefs from the day we met,” Melania responded. ‘And I believe in individual freedom. I want to decide what I want to do with my body. I think I don’t want the government in my personal affairs. I think it’s very important.’

She told Fox News that Donald knew in advance that the rule would play a role in her memoir.
‘He knew my beliefs, like I said, so he knew they would be in the book. He let me be who I am. And he let me believe what I believe. He let me be my own person and he respects that.’
She said that while she feels strongly about the issue, she can live with her husband’s disagreement.

Melania’s stances on abortion were revealed earlier this week when the press obtained an early copy of the book.
‘Why should anyone other than the woman herself have the power to determine what she does with her own body? “A woman’s fundamental right to individual freedom, to her own life, gives her the authority to terminate her pregnancy if she wishes,” she writes.
“Restricting a woman’s right to choose whether to terminate an unwanted pregnancy is the same as denying her control over her own body,” he says. “I have carried this belief with me throughout my adult life.”

While the repeal has been applauded by the anti-abortion wing of the Republican Party, the former president has more recently realized that the GOP is in danger over the issue.
Since the 2022 ruling, Democrats have scored a succession of electoral victories campaigning on abortion. Republicans are believed to have underperformed during the 2022 midterm elections because of this.
In August, Trump exclusively told DailyMail.com that he could vote to end Florida’s draconian six-week abortion ban when it comes up in a referendum later this year.
Days later, after irritating the anti-abortion wing of his party, he said he would not vote to repeal the six-week limit.

In her memoir, Melania writes that “occasional political disagreements between my husband and I” are “part of our relationship,” adding that she believes in “addressing them privately rather than challenging him publicly.”
Later in the book, he explains why he supports abortion.
“I have always believed that it is essential that people take care of themselves first,” she says. ‘It’s a very simple concept; In fact, we are all born with a set of fundamental rights, including the right to enjoy life.’
‘We all have the right to maintain a rewarding and dignified existence. This common sense approach applies to a woman’s natural right to make decisions about her own body and health.’
Elsewhere in Sunday’s Fox interview, Melania said it was still difficult to trust the Secret Service to protect her husband after former President Donald Trump was shot by a would-be assassin in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13.
The former first lady said she and her husband had a “great team” on the ground protecting them, but questioned the leaders of the agency in charge of their security.
“It’s hard to say who you really trust,” he said. “You want to do it, but it’s always a question mark.”
Melania Trump said she hoped recent leadership changes at the top of the agency would improve its level of protection.
