Mel Gibson claims he was paralyzed for three months after taking a popular Covid drug used to treat Donald Trump.

According to the Cleveland Clinic, remdesivir has a number of side effects including allergic reactions, breathing problems, diarrhea and nausea, but not paralysis or muscle weakness.

Remdesivir can cause confusion and fainting, which could make it difficult to walk.

Gibson first made his Covid diagnosis public in July 2020.

His representative at the time revealed that he spent a week in a Los Angeles hospital in April after testing positive for the virus.

But after treatment, the test came back negative and he was able to return home.

Sold under the brand name Veklury, remdesivir was developed by Gilead Sciences to treat Ebola, the deadly hemorrhagic fever that emerged in West Africa in 2014.

It works by blocking an enzyme that helps the coronavirus make copies of itself and, in turn, spread throughout the body.

The antiviral, given to patients intravenously over a five-day treatment, was used to treat President Trump and former White House doctor Anthony Fauci said the United States should share it with the world during the first days of Covid.

The federal government quickly set about accumulating stocks of the drug.

While several studies supported the benefits of remdesivir, one from the World Health Organization (WHO) later stated that it did not improve the chances of Covid survival.

In a study commissioned by the organization, 2,750 of more than 11,000 patients were administered remdesivir between March and early October 2020.

The $2,340 treatment did little to improve the chances of survival or shorten the recovery of people with Covid.

Now that she is back in good health, Gibson says she is working to live a longer, healthier life, one of her techniques being the 30:30:30 diet.

The method, promoted by biohacker Gary Brecka, involves eating 30 grams of protein within 30 minutes of waking up, followed by 30 minutes of steady cardiovascular exercise, such as walking.
