Mel B has admitted that they couldn’t call her Scary Spice today because people would find it offensive.
The singer, 48, who rose to fame as part of the ’90s girl band Spice Girls, adopted the nickname after one of her first interviews.
However, Mel has now said that these days the name would not be as accepted as the world is “too politically correct”.
Despite this, she revealed that she still loves the nickname and that 30 years after the girl group formed, they are “still the same.”
Bursting onto the music scene in 1994, each member was given a name: Scary, Posh (Victoria Beckham), Ginger (Geri Halliwell), Baby (Emma Bunton) and Sporty (Melanie Chisolm).

When asked how she felt about being nicknamed ‘Scary Spice’, Mel B told Elizabeth Day on the How to fail podcastst: ‘I think we’re too politically correct now. I calmed down in these last few years.
‘Before, if you interviewed me, I would say, “Show me your questions.” He would be the protector of the group that enters there. “Wait a minute.”
“That can be seen as maybe too northern, or maybe too feisty or scary, so it was given that name, and I love it.”
Mel B said her nickname derives from the “plain fact” that she is “a little scary” with “larger-than-life hair.”
And he added: ‘That’s just me. But today, someone would have been offended by that. But I’m not offended by it.
“Whether you’re black, white or mixed race, we’re all a little scared.”
The entire girl group received nicknames after they were interviewed for an article in Top of the Pops magazine in July 1996.
The singer said that even though it’s been 30 years since they were first coined, she thinks “we’re still the same.”
However, Mel has now said that these days the name would not be as accepted as the world is “too politically correct”.
She continued: “And I just want to make it clear that when we were given those names, it was some lazy journalist from some poppy magazine and he didn’t bother to remember our full names.”
“So he said, well, that one seems a little scary because she already snatched my notes and she has all this crazy hair and leopard print nails, so he just named us that.
“We were all like, God, I really like my name.”
“It’s funny because, to this day, Emma loves pink and would wear a ponytail if she could.”
‘Mel C, you can never take her tracksuit off and she always wears her hair in a ponytail.
‘Victoria is very skilled and elegant. Gerry, she’s gone through a little change, but she’s still that vivacious Union Jack girl at heart, being the lady of the moment.
“We’re all exactly the same, which is wonderful considering we started when we were 17, 18, 19 and now we’re 48, 49, 50.”
It comes after Melanie C revealed that Mel B exaggerated when she teased there would be a Spice Girls reunion.
The singer, 50, also known as Sporty Spice, poured cold water on hopes of the band getting back together.

But Mel C has now put an end to the rumors as she said. Sun: ‘Mel, I adore her and she has this thing, and sometimes that can get us in trouble. Of course we are always talking, we would love to do something more.
“I’d love to get back on stage with the girls, but everyone wants to do something a little different or in a different way, so it’s about everyone being on the same page at the same time.”
‘But Melanie likes to state things and believes that if she says it enough, it will happen. “I can’t confirm that anything is going to happen soon, but we are always talking about opportunities.”
Last May, Mel B said her former bandmate Victoria would be reuniting with the Spice Girls for a mystery project.
She claimed there was an exciting announcement in the works for the girl power group, but remained tight-lipped about the details.
However, he promised that “the five girls” would come together professionally for the first time in 11 years.

Mel B revealed that the five Wannabe hitmakers would soon be releasing a statement about their secret project and that they were currently busy “perfecting” it.
