Mel B has lashed out at Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs as she recalls the shocking moment he called her an idiot in an onstage altercation.
In the expanded version of her 2018 memoir, Brutally Honest, the Spice Girl, 49, criticized the controversial rapper’s treatment of her while she was trying to rehearse for her hosting stint at the 1998 MOBO Awards.
Mel, who presented the show alongside American comedian Bill Bellamy, told how Diddy, 55, and his huge entourage refused to come off stage to allow Mel to practise, and the struggling singer confronted him.
However, Diddy, who was performing at the event under his then stage name Puff Daddy, dismissed her complaints, before cruelly commenting: “Get this bitch off the stage.”
The aspiring hitmaker wrote in her book: “People think I’m very tough, and to some extent I am.” I can hold my own against people like Sean ‘P. Diddy’ ‘Puffy’ Combes, who, back in 1998 when I was asked to host the MOBO Awards in London, wouldn’t come off the stage to let me start rehearsals for the show. I had to act as well as host the show.
‘He turned up with a huge entourage and then arrived at my rehearsal time with the clock ticking less than an hour before the doors opened. I was watching, furious, as he said he wanted another review. I walked towards him. “No, I need to rehearse my song NOW,” I said.

“He didn’t even look at me, he just held up his microphone and said, ‘Get this bitch off the stage.’
Recalling her reaction, Mel continued: “I was furious. It was a British show and we don’t behave like that here. Nobody has the right to say that about anyone. I walked over and tapped him on the shoulder. “What did you say? Take WHAT off the stage?”
“He tried to ignore me, so I said, ‘Listen, I’m introducing you tonight, so it would be nice if I were you.’ The doors will open in ten minutes. I need to rehearse. Can you get off? Damn scenario!”
Mel then recounted how she finally got her way before the rapper, who is currently awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, sent her a gift as an apology.
She shared: ‘I had my rehearsal, and about half an hour later, one of their bouncers showed up in my dressing room with a peace offering: a jacket with P. Diddy’s name splashed all over it. It looked like a bloody cage.
And there was no way I would walk around with his name on my back. “Thanks,” I said with a fake smile, then tossed it to the bouncer. I wanted you to send me a message. Nobody has the right to treat anyone like that. And a shoddy jacket was not an acceptable excuse.
After his confrontation with Scary Spice, Diddy performed at the event, where he also won two awards.
Meanwhile, Mel didn’t let the altercation get her down and went on to host the awards show the following year.

It comes as Diddy reportedly lost a significant amount of weight and looks “grayer”, three months after being jailed on sex trafficking and extortion charges.
The rapper has been behind bars at New York City’s notoriously harsh Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting trial.
Combs was seen looking surprisingly thin at the latest hearing in his case, according to a reporter who attended the proceedings Wednesday.
Law and crime reporter Elizabeth Millner was quoted by Page six saying after the hearing: ‘He looked surprisingly thinner, which can be expected (from him being) inside a federal detention center for a couple of months.
“Very different from the luxury lifestyle he led before, but he seemed noticeably thinner and maybe being detained is starting to wear on him.”
The journalist added that Combs’ appearance was markedly different from how he looked in a video that appeared online of him playing hacky sack in Central Park days before he was arrested on September 16, 2024.
He added that the rapper’s hair had also changed, saying, “It looked a little grayer.”
No cameras were allowed inside the courtroom during Combs’ appearance.
A source close to the imprisoned Bad Boy Records founder insisted to Page Six that he is “fit, healthy and fully focused on his defense.”

They added: “He has been very active, remains in good spirits and, as always, was happy to see his children.”
Page Six added that he has been told he is also “exercising regularly.”
Combs has been denied bail three times while in federal custody.
After a months-long investigation by authorities, he was charged with sex trafficking, extortion and transportation for prostitution (all of which he denies) and a trial date was set for May 5, 2025.
Combs was placed on suicide watch during his first week in custody, but was removed shortly after, with his attorney stating that his client was “focused and very strong.”
