Prince Harry to spill tea on Thomas Markle's estrangement in upcoming memoir

Before becoming the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan Markle often shared personal stories on her blog, The Tig. In a heartfelt Father’s Day post, Meghan fondly recalled her close bond with her father, Thomas Markle.

In 2014 blog entryMeghan detailed a cherished tradition with her father: “Our club sandwich and smoothie tradition predates my tap and ballet classes, which, by the way, he religiously took me to on Saturday mornings after working 75-plus hours a week as a lighting director.”

He continued his emotional tribute: “To my dad, my caring, inspiring, hard-working dad, happy Father’s Day. ‘If I had all the water in the world, I’d give all the water to you…’ (You won’t understand that line, but he does. And for Father’s Day, that’s all that matters.)”

Meghan ended her blogging career a few months before she married Prince Harry, with her last post being published in 2017. In 2020, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made the momentous decision to leave the royal family and move to California with their son, Prince Archie. The couple subsequently accused the royal family of racism towards their son and aired their grievances publicly. Since settling in the United States, they have welcomed a daughter, Princess Lilibet.

Meghan’s reflections on her relationship with her father offer insight into a once-close bond that has now become strained, and highlight the complex dynamics of their personal and public lives. Despite the current estrangement, her words on The Tig reveal a deep appreciation for the support and love her father gave her during her formative years.
