Thomas Markle, Meghan Markle’s estranged father, has made headlines again with a candid interview that reveals his plans to leave the United States in 2025 and her sincere hopes to reconnect with her grandchildren, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.
Markle, 80, shared her aspirations to move from Rosarito, Mexico (her home for the past decade) to Southeast Asia, citing a desire for a more peaceful and kind environment in her later years.
“I am moving away from US policy that disappoints me,” he told mail on sunday. “At 80, it’s time to go somewhere where the people are lovely and you can enjoy a calmer, friendlier existence.”
Their choice to consider Southeast Asia is due to its affordability, quality healthcare, and cultural respect for older people. “In Southeast Asia, healthcare is good, you can live reasonably cheap, people are friendly and respectful of older people, and the food is healthy,” he explained.
However, it is not just a change of scenery. Markle expressed her deep longing for peace, following years of public family drama and personal health problems, including two heart attacks and a stroke.
“More than anything, I just want peace. At 80, none of us know how much time we have left. “I want whatever time I have to be peaceful, without any of the terrible dramas of the last few years,” he said.
Distanced but still hopeful
The breakup between Markle and Meghan has been widely publicized, and their estrangement dates back to 2018, before her marriage to Prince Harry. Despite their differences, he conveyed his unwavering love for his daughter.
“I don’t like some of the things my daughter has done, but I will always love her. My door is always open for her. I love her and that will never change. “I love all my children,” he said.
When it comes to Meghan’s husband, Prince Harry, and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, Markle admitted she’s never met them, but remains hopeful.
“I’ve come to accept that I probably never will, but the door remains constantly open for them,” he said.
Dreams of a family reunion
Markle also sympathized with King Charles, who, like him, has limited access to his grandchildren. “I am a grandfather and he is king of England, but he is also a grandfather who would like to see his grandchildren,” he reflected.
As she prepares for a new chapter, Markle expressed her dream of bringing the family back together. “I wish him no ill will. My dream is that one day I can reunite my entire family, like a ‘normal’ family,” he said.
Looking to the future
Accompanied by his son, Thomas Markle Jr., he plans to explore possible new homes in Southeast Asia. “I don’t know where I’ll end up, but it’s time to move on and find a place where I can live among friendly people and enjoy the time I have left,” he shared.
As he continues his journey to find peace, one thing remains true: Thomas Markle’s love for his daughter and grandchildren remains strong, even in the midst of turmoil. For now, he remains hopeful that one day the division will be overcome.
“My door is always open,” he reiterated, a poignant reminder of his enduring hope for reconciliation.
