Meghan Markle’s recent comments on her 2017 engagement interview with BBC presenter Mishal Husain continues to generate controversy. In his Netflix documentary series, “Harry and Meghan,The Duchess of Sussex described the interview as an “orchestrated reality show” and claimed it was “rehearsed.”
“It was a rehearsed thing,” Meghan said. “So we did what we had to do outside with the press, and then we went in, took off our coats, sat down and did the interview. It all happened at the same time.”
Husain, who had previously remained silent on the matter, has now shared his reaction and expressed shock at Meghan’s characterisation of the interview. Saga MagazineHusain recalled the interview as a joyful moment shared with a couple in love.
“When the Duchess of Sussex said my engagement interview with her and Harry was an ‘orchestrated reality show,’ I didn’t know what to think,” Husain said. “It seemed like they had thought about what their new lives would be like and what marriage would mean to her in particular. There was nothing to indicate what would happen… They were two people full of joy for each other and for life.”
British broadcaster and photographer Helena Chard also weighed in on the controversy, saying: Fox Digital News that Meghan and Prince Harry seemed to have “a great deal of control over the narrative.”
“Meghan claimed the interview was an orchestrated reality show and that Husain was not empathetic or warm enough to do the interview,” Chard said. “It sounds like Meghan put on a great performance and that she and Harry were very much in control of their narrative.”
Chard added: “I think the discrepancies in Harry and Meghan’s story have led people to question why there are so many contradictions. It makes people suspicious of their motives.”
Conflicting accounts of the engagement interview have further fueled debate over Meghan and Harry’s story and public statements. While the couple continues to share their story through various media outlets, the public remains divided over the authenticity and intentions behind their revelations.
