The news that a GoFundMe campaign has been set up to celebrate the birthday of Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, has sparked candid reactions from pundits. The campaign, organised by British socialite Lady Collin Campbell, known for her outspoken opinions on the Duchess of Sussex, has drawn both surprise and criticism.
Former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond didn’t hold back in her assessment, calling the GoFundMe initiative “a ridiculous idea” from the start. Despite the “ridiculous” criticism that continues to come her way, Meghan Markle has a surprising ally. In an interview with OK! MagazineBond said: “I think it’s a pretty ridiculous idea to set up a fund for Thomas Markle.”
She continued: “I am sorry that his daughter does not want him in her life and I think it is quite cruel of Meghan. However, he has another daughter and a son who can surely look after their father perfectly.”
Bond further criticized the campaign, pointing out that there are many people in the world who need more financial help than Markle. “So I think it’s really an exercise in mischief to make Meghan look bad,” he added.
Speaking about the family dynamics in general, Bond noted: “Meghan seems to have completely severed all ties with her American family apart from her mother and perhaps a cousin.”
Reflecting on the strained relationships within the Markle family, Bond expressed sadness for Thomas Markle, who has not met his son-in-law, Prince Harry, or his grandchildren. “I think it is a great shame and it is incredibly sad for Thomas not to meet his son-in-law or his grandchildren. But families are complicated and feelings run deep.”
He also acknowledged tensions between Meghan and her half-siblings, Samantha and Thomas Markle Jr., saying: “Both Samantha and Thomas Junior have said some outrageous things about Meghan, and Samantha is still waiting for her day in court. It’s all incredibly sad.”
This latest development highlights the ongoing complexities and public scrutiny surrounding Meghan Markle’s relationship with her family, and the GoFundMe campaign adds another layer of controversy to an already complicated situation.
