Meghan Markle and Prince Harry arrive in Birkenhead

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex landed in the northwest of Birkenhead for their first joint commitment of the year.

Meghan, 37, looked glowing in a red wrapper and accompanying stilettos worn over an embracing £ 107 purple dress from Babaton by Aritizia when she arrived in Merseyside on Monday morning with her husband.

And in a return to her distinctive style, the Duchess dumped the slender chignon she has played over the past few weeks for a relaxed & messy & # 39; knot.

Meghan's £ 1,085 red coat, presumably a new addition to her wardrobe, is from the Canadian brand Sentaler and the duchess has worn the brown version earlier in Sandringham.

The couple, who expect their first baby in the spring, have traveled from London to Merseyside to visit organizations that support and reinforce groups in the community.

Their first stop was Hamilton Square in Birkenhead to view a new sculpture that was set up in November on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the death of the war poet Wilfred Owen.

The statue, named after one of Owen's works, Futility, is cast in bronze and represents an exhausted soldier from the First World War.

After revealing a plaque to mark the visit, Harry and Meghan met local veterans and members of the Birkenhead Institute Old Boys, to which Owen belonged, and played a role in the creation of the tribute.

The duke and duchess then undertook a royal walk through the large crowd, many of whom stood in line for a glimpse of the royal couple.

Later they visit Tomorrow & # 39; s Women Wirral, an organization that supports women in vulnerable circumstances.

Originally founded in 2011 to support women in their release from prison, it has since expanded and now offers a series of training and workshops for more than 6,000 local women, including support groups on mental health problems, domestic violence and addiction.

Harry and Meghan will speak to some of the women directly before they visit the local charity shop, the cafe and the Inspiration Hall. Their last stop of the day is the Hive Wirral Youth Zone.
