The Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrated Harry’s 39th birthday this evening at a German brewery, drinking some of Dusseldorf’s best lagers and eating traditional food.
Prince Harry, who celebrates his birthday tomorrow, enjoyed plates of bratwurst Wiener Schnitzel, red cabbage and mashed potatoes.
Along with his wife Meghan and a dozen of his staff, he was seen by diners laughing and joking as the food arrived at his table in the ‘Im Goldened Kessel’ restaurant.
At the end of the evening, the couple posed for photos with Schumacher’s staff, with Meghan sporting yet another chic outfit.
Appearing to stick to the white skinny jeans she opted for while watching the seated volleyball match earlier in the day, Meghan chose a red and white pinstriped shirt and nude ballet flats. Meanwhile, Harry chose dark jeans and a gray top.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex celebrated Harry’s 39th birthday this evening, tomorrow, in a German brasserie.
He and Meghan happily posed for photos with restaurant owner Thea Ungermann and head waiter Frank Wackers who happily shared them with Mail Online.
Thea said: “He was a lovely man and was having a very happy time. Meghan was adorable.
During his meal, Harry was offered a birthday cake by staff at the restaurant, which is part of the Schumacher Brewery and based in Düsseldorf’s Old Town.
The former royal and his group occupied two tables and had their food and beer served by maître d’ Frank Wackers, who has worked at the restaurant for 38 years.
He told Mail Online that Harry was given six small beers – around half a pint instead of the liter beers most German breweries serve.
He said Harry and his group were served Wiener Schnitzel, pork knuckle, sausages and plates of roast and mashed potatoes.
Frank said: “They were very happy. He’s a lovely man and they were so nice.
Restaurant staff added that Meghan had a small beer. They were so excited to have Harry and Meghan that they shared photos of the couple posing.
Other guests left the party alone, but they didn’t hesitate to allow others to take photos.
Frank joked about asking Harry’s bodyguard, Chris Sanchez, what the beer tasted like and when he told him it was horrible.

Meghan Markle opted for another understated outfit today as she wore a silky brown shirt and pants to join Prince Harry at the Invictus Games.
“He said he would kill me if the beer was bad, but I know he was joking.”
Sanchez, a former Secret Service bodyguard, happily posed with the waiter.
To celebrate his 39th birthday tomorrow, Harry was offered a white chocolate cake by the restaurant. The group returned to their waiting cars on the cobblestone streets of the Old Town or Altstadt district of the city.
At the hotel, his assistants sang Happy Birthday and enjoyed the cake.
The source close to the prince said: “They drank local beer and ate family meals to experience a real German meal. Everyone was incredibly friendly, especially the servers pictured in the photo online.
“They did not dine in a private space and were in good spirits, toasting and laughing with the team.
After dinner, the group returned to the hotel to sing happy birthday and eat cake just before midnight! ‘
The restaurant owner said Harry paid the bill and left the staff a large tip.
The restaurant is attached to the Schumacher brewery, one of the two popular venues in Düsseldorf.
The Wiener Schnitzel is on the menu for 30 euros while the Bratwurst costs £14.50 per portion.
The restaurant does not offer English menus but fortunately the staff, including owner Thea Ungermann, are fluent in English. His maître d’ also speaks English very well and was able to take Harry and Meghan’s orders without the need for German translation.
Harry and his group had departed from their hotel in the city’s media port and were dropped off in a pedestrian zone.

Although she’s opted for inexpensive looks in her last few appearances, the Duchess went high-end today – and paired the look with oversized £165 Miu Miu sunglasses.

Meghan wowed in her all-brown ensemble as she headed out

The mother of two, 42, opted for a monochrome two-tone ensemble of brown, while wearing $1,490 silk wide-leg pants by Gabriel Hearst, which she previously wore to the One Young World panel in 2022.

She teamed the look with £165 oversized Miu Miu sunglasses and a £365 Dani blouse from French designer L’agence.

Adding even more glamor to the look, the royal wore Princess Diana’s £17,800 Cartier watch and yet swapped her $62,000 Lorraine Schwartz pinky ring made with “gifted diamonds from the Middle East” for one $2,800 tennis pinky ring from 1972 by Shiffon and Co.

She added her £5,000 Cartier love bracelet to her look as she walked hand-in-hand with Prince Harry.
They walked the 50 meters to the restaurant, passing other bars before occupying two tables in an elevated part of the restaurant which is next to a McDonald’s.
Attendees drank the locally brewed beer called Alt Schumacher, which is also served at the Merkur Spiel-Arena where the Invictus Games are held.
Restaurant owner Thea said: “The couple were very relaxed, they drank our beer, Schumacher Alt – it’s the same beer they serve at the Invictus Games.
“Harry and Meghan were sitting next to each other during the meal. I got goosebumps when they walked into the restaurant. I had watched his speech on the Invictus Games stage and I didn’t I couldn’t believe he was in my restaurant. Prince Harry was so adorable and gave me a hug.
The restaurant posted the group photo of Harry and Meghan posing with staff on its social media.
It is believed Harry has thrown a party at the start of 39th as he will be busy with Friday’s games events.
