Victor Wembanyama is the alien ready to light up basketball, but he was overshadowed when he officially arrived in the NBA by his older sister Eve at the New York draft on Thursday night.
In moving scenes, Wembanyama cried as he was interviewed after being drafted first by the San Antonio Spurs and had Eve and his brother Oscar by his side.
And it was there, as ESPN’s interview turned to her family to help her pull herself together, that the NBA world first met Eve.
“It’s amazing, we’re all so proud,” the 21-year-old said of her brother. “We’re so happy for you, we’re happy for family, friends, everything for basketball – it’s so amazing.”
The siblings then had a group hug as the magnitude of Victor’s new life began to be felt.

She documented a big night for her family and the NBA – there’s huge hype surrounding her brother Victor
Eve said she was ‘so proud’ of Victor and the whole week felt like a dream
Later on Instagram, where Eve documented her time in New York this week, she shared a montage of photos with the caption, “Can’t believe this isn’t a dream.”
His brother Oscar, meanwhile, changed his Instagram bio to read “Spurs fan now” after Victor was officially drafted by the team.
Eve is a regular basketball player in her own right – she played for France at Under-16 level and most recently played for Monaco in her home country.
She’s a distinguished 3×3 player – the official 3×3 Basketball Twitter account shared a video of her in action, captioned: ‘Sorry Victor our favorite Wemby is playing 3×3’. Eve Wembanyama is a danger!
She could be the older sister, she’s not technically the big sister. Unsurprisingly, she’s not as tall as her 7ft 4in sibling – Eve is 6ft 1in tall.
Travel seems to be a key interest for Eve outside of basketball. In addition to her New York photos this week, she has already shared snaps from trips to Europe as well as her native France.
The Wembanyamas also seem like close family – Eve often shares photos with her two brothers and always captions them with a heart emoji.

Their lives are now about to change significantly with an explosion of interest in Wembanyama himself. He was the most nailed first pick in the draft since LeBron James in 2003.
The 19-year-old took what was a whirlwind few days in New York this week, but the opportunity overwhelmed him when he was picked on Thursday night.
The lives of Eve and the rest of the family will also change massively, whether she is playing basketball in France or on the court in Texas later this year. Watching his brother play will soon be the hottest ticket in town.
Wembanyama’s tight control and agility is something so unusual for his towering size and it prompted LeBron to call him an “alien” earlier this year.
Now, the French teenager has begun the journey to potentially join ‘The King’ as one of the NBA’s all-time greats.
