Ryan Gosling is first portrayed as the beloved Mattel doll Ken as he gears up to star alongside Margot Robbie in the live-action Barbie movie.

On Wednesday, the Oscar-nominated actor was seen sporting his tanned and chiseled chest in a cropped denim jacket and bleached white hair for the role.

Warner Bros. released the promotional photo via a tweet, simply stating the movie title and a July 21, 2023 release date, which was previously revealed when they shared the first image of Margot, 31, as Barbie in April.

Ryan, 41, is known for his serious acting in critically acclaimed films such as Drive, Blade Runner 2049, Blue Valentine and Half Nelson.

With a cheesy grin and white underwear bearing his character’s name, Ken’s role certainly seems to be a bit of a left turn for the thespian.

Little Women and Ladybird filmmaker Greta Gerwig is leading the project and co-wrote the film with her longtime partner Noah Baumbach.

The film features an all-star cast including Will Ferrell, Issa Rae, Simu Liu, Kate McKinnon, America Ferrera, Michael Cera and Alexandra Shipp.

A summary of IMDB of the upcoming movie reads: ‘A doll living in ‘Barbieland’ is expelled from school for not being perfect enough and embarks on an adventure in the real world. A live-action feature film based on the popular line of Barbie toys.”

Margot has long been scheduled to play the world’s most iconic fashion doll in a live-action film, and in December 2020, she pledged to give audiences “something completely different.”

Going for something ‘a little left in the middle’, when it comes to her rendition of the Mattel doll, the project will be produced by her LuckyChap Entertainment Company, whose motto is ‘If it’s not a**k, yes , it’s a no.”

Speak with The Hollywood Reporter About the project, Robbie said, “Like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people have an immediate idea of, ‘Oh Margot plays Barbie, I know what that is.’

“But our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you think, we’re going to give you something completely different — the thing you didn’t know you wanted.'”

The live-action Barbie movie is slated to release on July 21, 2023.
