Derek Blasberg became the center of attention in Hollywood after being accused of being the mysterious guest who lost control of his bowels in a bed at Gwyneth Paltrow’s Hamptons home.
Although he is not as famous as Paltrow, 51, his presence in her luxurious mansion is no surprise.
The 42-year-old fashion journalist and author has cemented his status as close friends with famous names including Jeff Bezos, Kate Hudson, Karlie Kloss, Kendall Jenner and Sienna Miller after years of rubbing shoulders with the world’s biggest stars.
But despite maintaining a relatively private life, unlike some of his A-list friends, his recent bathroom woes put him firmly in the spotlight.
The Internet was sent into a frenzy last week when an article hidden in a popular gossip newsletter claimed that Goop founder Paltrow had to clean up someone’s “Ozempic-induced diarrhea” in her home.
Close sources later told DailyMail.com that Blasberg – once described as “one of the best-connected men in showbiz” – was to blame and had conveniently blamed the incident on the popular weight-loss wonder drug before allegedly fleeing the property.
Fashion socialite Derek Blasberg is making waves for being identified as the guest who apparently lost control of his bowels in a bed at Gwyneth Paltrow’s Hamptons home.
Insiders told DailyMail.com that he had conveniently blamed the incident on the popular miracle weight-loss drug before allegedly fleeing the property.
“He’s not Ozempic, that’s just what he told everyone,” the source said, before revealing how the secret got out to the Hamptons establishment.
“Gwyneth told Oprah, Jerry and Jessica Seinfeld, and Larry David,” they continued.
“It’s amazing how many people know about this story and how she’s managed to keep it out of the Post… probably through her best friend (socialite Dasha Zhukova), whose mother just married Rupert Murdoch.”
In fact, Blasberg met Zhukova in 2009 for a profile that appeared in the July issue of Interview Magazine.
At the time, she was known as the ex-girlfriend of tennis ace Marat Safin and had moved on to start a relationship with Russian oligarch, Roman Abramovich.
The pair discussed Zhukova’s opening of the Centre for Contemporary Culture, known as The Garage, in Moscow and the friendship blossomed immediately: the pair attended top-notch events and were photographed together on holiday in the years that followed.
He then re-profiled it in December 2015 for the Gagosian Gallerywhere he works as a senior staff member.
The story is one of many similar interactions that became lasting friendships for Blasberg as he rose through the ranks of fashion journalism.
Blasberg, 42, is no stranger to spending time with the actress at her Long Island home, pictured in 2018 when she married Brad Falchuk.
The well-connected fashion maven previously posted a snap of himself and Paltrow at her 50th birthday celebrations at the property in 2022.
Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Blasberg moved to New York City in 2000 to attend New York University.
After graduating in 2004 with degrees in Dramatic Literature and Journalism, she began her career as an assistant at Vogue.
During his magazine career, he became the youngest editor-at-large in Harper’s Bazaar history and saw his fame rise thanks to his role as Vanity Fair’s Our Man on the Street.
Having also worked as an editor for V and VMan, and contributing writing to The New York Times, WSJ Magazine, Elle and Glamour, he was a familiar face to many of Hollywood’s elite and quickly found himself welcomed into their inner circles.
His face became more recognizable after acting as host of a new version of CNN Style in 2016.
Guests on the show included Emma Watson, Karl Lagerfeld, Kendall Jenner, Charlize Theron, Anna Wintour and more.
Prior to that, he co-hosted Fashionably Late with Rachel Zoe and, in 2011, appeared alongside Alexa Chung on 24 Hour Catwalk.

In 2022, the fashion expert posted a snap of himself and the actress celebrating her 50th birthday at the sprawling property.
Describing how the pair became friends The cutPaltrow admitted she had wondered if Blasberg was simply a professional hanger-on.
“When I first met him, I had some doubts… I thought, ‘Are you the best professional friend of celebrities? And why are you everywhere at once? What’s wrong with you?'”
“After ten seconds, I completely fell in love with him,” she said.
Blasberg himself is known for hosting star-studded parties, and his birthday parties often serve as a warm-up to the Met Gala.
For her 42nd birthday party in April, A-list stars including Anne Hathaway, Kate Hudson, Jake Gyllenhaal and Andy Cohen were in attendance.
While her 2022 party was attended by Bezos, Hailey Bieber and Leonardo DiCaprio, among others.

In 2021, the couple welcomed three-year-old twins Elizabeth Grace and Frederick Noah via surrogate.
Sharing the happy news with the world, Blasberg wrote: ‘Welcome to the world Grace and Noah. I am humbled and honored by the arrival of these two magnificent and glorious angels. Thank you from the bottom of my heart to @nickbrown for being a wonderful life partner, best friend and now co-parent.
‘Thank you to our wonderful surrogate mother for making this long-held dream come true. Thank you to everyone who raised or started their own non-traditional family and paved the way for us to start our own.
‘And thank you to our incredible support system of friends, family, coworkers, medical professionals, and everyone else (even lawyers!) who have been with us on this journey.’
She added: “Whoever said ‘it takes a village to raise a child’ was not a same-sex parent having children via out-of-state surrogacy at the tail end of a global pandemic. It took so many villages (and counties, and states, etc.) to form our family and we are deeply grateful to all of them. This joy is real.”
