Medical supplies firm Smith & Nephew teams up with mixed martial arts promoter the UFC

Smith & Nephew has joined the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC).

The FTSE 100 medical device company, founded in Hull in 1856, develops technology for operations such as repairing soft tissue injuries and degenerative joint disease. It also makes hip and knee replacements.

UFC is an American mixed martial arts promotion company based in Las Vegas that stages approximately 40 fights per year and has more than 700 million fans worldwide.

Smith & Nephew’s products and technology will be used at UFC’s Performance Institutes in Las Vegas, Shanghai and Mexico City.

The organizations will collaborate on original content for UFC’s social media channels, which have more than 259 million users.

UFC athletes will participate in Smith & Nephew marketing campaigns. Scott Schaffner, president of sports medicine for Smith & Nephew, said, “We are proud to partner with UFC and share a common goal of getting patients back to play quickly, safely and effectively.”

Vice President of UFC Global Partnerships Robby Miller said, “Through hard work, significant investment and groundbreaking innovations like the UFC Performance Institute, UFC has become the industry leader in athlete health and safety in combat sports.”
