The Spaniard Gavi is considered one of the upcoming superstars in world football – and could be available for free in the summer due to a formal error. FC Bayern has long been considered interested, and now there should be a first offer from Munich for the top talent from FC Barcelona.
Will Gavi move to Bayern Munich for free in the summer? The possibility exists: The Spanish Primera División has removed the 18-year-old from FC Barcelona’s professional squad for violating the salary cap.
In plain language: as long as the Catalans don’t lower their salary costs, Gavi only has academy player status. From next season, the midfield talent should no longer appear for the Barca professionals.
FC Bayern has long been considered a potential buyer – and according to a media report, it should now be serious.
As the Spanish newspaper “Sport” reports, FC Bayern has contacted Gavi’s advisor, ex-Barca star Iván De la Peña. The people of Munich are said to have prepared a “lucrative offer”.
FC Bayern has had Gavi on their radar for a long time
De la Peña is said to have recently held initial talks with Chelsea FC officials.
At the end of March, “Sky” reported that FC Bayern was monitoring the situation around Gavi very closely. “Bayern are 100 percent aware of the issue. I can say that at this point,” emphasized transfer expert Florian Plettenberg at the time.
At that time, however, Munich’s efforts had not yet been concrete. “It hasn’t progressed yet, but Bayern know Gavi. Maybe there will still be movement. There are currently no negotiations,” explained Plettenberg. Previously, the Spanish “Marca” had counted FC Bayern among the interested parties.
Gavi only extended his contract with FC Barcelona in September until 2026. However, should he not be registered for the first team by June 30, 2023, the extension of the working paper will be invalid – and the top talent free transfer.
