Meanwhile, a British man was left stunned by what McCafé cafes in Australia are like.

His friend ordered his coffee with sugar and was surprised when the barista added the sweetener for him instead of providing him with a sachet to add it himself.

“I thought all McDonald’s coffee machines would be pretty standardized around the world until a friend posted a picture of her Australian cup,” the man wrote on Facebook.

Since when do they add sugar instead of the little white packets? What options do you have at your local MacCies?

In Australia, sugar is only added at the customer’s request, but it is an option.

Other customers shared their own theories, mostly related to hygiene and convenience.

“Most coffees add sugar, especially since Covid,” wrote one Australian.

“I think they add the sugar so that people picking up their coffee at the drive thru don’t have to add sugar while driving,” another said.

Someone else said: “I’m Australian and yes, they will put sugar in you.”

Another said: ‘But they don’t mix the sugar; if you forget to mix it, you end up with a pile of sugar at the bottom of the cup.’
