McDonald’s launches ‘adult’ menu item in Australia: ‘Finally they’re here’

  • McDonald’s relaunches McNugget Buddies after 25 years
  • They will be part of a ‘happy meal’ for adults

McDonald’s Australia has announced that adults-only happy meals will be available nationwide from Wednesday.

The big boxes are expected to spark a wave of enthusiasm among mature customers, especially those who are nostalgic for the ’90s.

The meal, called the Kerwin Frost Box, will include a large mac or 10-pack of nuggets, drinks and chips, as well as a toy made with adults in mind.

The special toys, called McNugget Buddies, have not been seen in Australia for 25 years, since 1998, but were once a favorite collectible.

The reinvented friends will also come with trading cards for the first time.

McDonald’s has relaunched McNugget Buddies in Australia, in a new ‘happy meal’ for adults. On the left is ‘Brrrick’ and on the right is ‘The Mayor’.

A McDonald’s spokesperson told FEMAIL that the popular toys have had a modern makeover, designed in partnership with visionary artist, street style icon and Macca fan Kerwin Frost.

They have been inspired by their childhood experiences and the belief that everyone should feel free to express themselves.

The artist explained: ‘Featuring my own special set of friends, each representing different aspects of self-expression, is unreal, a dream come true.

Each nugget has its own personality and comes with a collectible card.

McNugget Buddies have not been available in Australia since 1998

‘McDonald’s has been a great partner from day one and they have really allowed me to create without limits. I hope the Kerwin Frost box serves as a reminder for people to hone their creativity and not be afraid to show the world who they really are.’

Starting Wednesday, February 14, six different McNugget Friends collectibles will be available in restaurants across Australia, with each McNugget Friends bringing a unique wardrobe, personality and hobby.

McDonald’s Australia marketing director Amanda Nakad said McDonald’s customers have expressed a desire to find their inner child.

‘No matter how much time has passed, Macca fans never forget the feeling of opening a Happy Meal box to see the surprises inside.

‘Fans told us they wanted to celebrate that quintessential childhood experience again, so we’ve made it for the older kids. “We are excited to bring McNugget Buddies back to Australia, creating more moments and memories for our customers.”

The new McNugget Buddies include Kerwin Frost as ‘The Mayor,’ Don Bernice, ‘The Wise Stylist,’ and Uptown Moe as ‘The Neighborhood Hero.’

There’s also Waffutu ‘The Curious Optimist’, BRRICK ‘The Cool Guy’ and Darla ‘The Dreamer’.
