McDonald’s fans have criticized a “disgusting” recipe change to one of the franchise’s popular condiments.
Customers of the US fast food chain have been left furious after spotting a subtle change to the Sweet ‘N’ Sour sauce available in UK restaurants, saying the brand has “ruined” the beloved flavour.
On TikTok, one creator, @demmmx92, described the change as “absolutely disgusting” and a “rape.”
“So McDonald’s sweet and sour sauce has changed and it’s disgusting,” he declared at the beginning of the clip.
Demi compared two jars of the beloved sauce side by side, revealing subtle changes to the packaging.

One pot had a round plastic rim and a more vibrant green lid. As well as having slightly smaller writing on the front.
The new version also appeared in a slightly different shade of orange compared to the original, which Demi attributed to the strong “apricot” flavor. “It’s even lighter in color,” he said in the clip.
The video also revealed slight differences in the ingredients listed on the front of the packaging, suggesting the brand has updated its recipe.
The old pot contains apricot puree and soy sauce as the first ingredients, while the second one does not seem to contain soy sauce. The list also has noticeably fewer ingredients.
Captioning the video, Demi wrote: “Now it tastes like pure apricot,” adding that “Mcdonald’s has really ruined the best sauce you know.”
According to the American chain’s website, Sweet ‘N’ Sour sauce is flavored with: “A sweet and sour apricot flavor, lightly spiced with a bitter aftertaste.”
The sauce is one of a selection of sauces available for free at the chain’s restaurants in the UK, along with ketchup, BBQ sauce and sweet curry sauce.
But fans of the chip favorite have shared their disappointment over a “disgusting” change to the recipe which has changed its popular taste.

A second agreed. “OMG, we just had maccies and the sauce was disgusting. I thought I was going crazy.”
Demi wasn’t alone in her opinion of the recent change. One wrote: “It’s disgusting, it’s so runny I ate it before and thought it was my mouth giving it that taste. I thought I was going to get sick haha, it’s like mango chutney.”
A second agreed. “OMG, we just had maccies and the sauce was disgusting. I thought I was going crazy.”
‘My God, I thought I was the only one who noticed this. It tastes horrible!’ said a third.
Others compared the new recipe to sweet curry sauce, another free condiment offered in UK restaurants. “It has a hint of sweet curry… I literally thought it was f**ked up,” one commented.
“I thought it tasted more like curry, but at first I thought I was wrong,” wrote another who agreed.
Demi wasn’t alone in her opinion of the recent change. One wrote: “It’s disgusting, it’s so runny I ate it before and thought it was my mouth giving it that taste. I thought I was going to get sick haha, it’s like mango chutney.”
Responding to claims about a change in the sauce recipe, a McDonald’s spokesperson said: “We love how much our customers care about the small details, and some eagle-eyed fans have noticed a slight difference in our sweet and sour sauce. “.
‘This is because we currently use an emergency provider, which also creates funds for McDonald’s in Germany.
“While the recipe has minimal variation, it has been fully approved by McDonald’s and made to the same high standards you know and love.”
It comes after the fast food chain launched its festive menu for the season.
The fast food giant will launch its new festive menu in branches across the UK on November 20, featuring a number of festive favourites.
One A new cheesy addition will be joining this year’s holiday lineup in the form of Cheese McCrispy and Camembert Cheese Melt Dippers.
Last year, dessert fans enjoyed the Galaxy Caramel Pie; This year, McDonald’s is tempting diners with a version of Terry’s Chocolate Orange.
Other returning candies include: Terry’s Chocolate Orange McFlurry (regular and mini), Galaxy Caramel McFlurry, Galaxy Caramel Latte and Galaxy Caramel Hot Chocolate.
McDonald’s also announced that Big Tasty will be joining the holiday menu this year.
As an added bonus, the classic entree will also be available as a Big Tasty with bacon.
