McDonald’s fans were left furious after the fast food chain made a major change to its coffee cups.
Restaurants across the UK now serve coffee, tea and hot chocolate in mugs with eco-friendly lids which some customers complain lose their structural integrity when they come into contact with hot drinks.
It appears the new sustainable lids are being used in McDonald’s stores across the UK as part of the company’s strategy. 2030 commits to “closing the waste loop” and ultimately reducing the amount of material used in packaging by 30 percent.
So far, the fast food giant appears to have achieved its 2024 goal of having all of its major customers’ packaging be recyclable or compostable, which explains the recent switch to paper straws and cutlery, as well as non-woven salad boxes. plastic.
However, some customers have taken to social media to complain about the “awful” new lids that collapse while they are still drinking their drink.
Writing in X, one person said: ‘I can’t stand these new covers. Are you sure you can find plastic lids that can be recycled?
“Same as those stupid paper straws that get soggy in 10 minutes.”
Another said: “After my recent complaints about McDonald’s cup lids, I don’t know if they are better or worse than the plastic ones that break every time.”

A third commented: ‘The paper covers don’t even go on. Revert to using plastic lids immediately, please.
A fourth wrote: ‘I think you might want to reconsider this new idea of cardboard lids. I literally collapse while drinking it.
Criticizing McDonald’s switch to paper packaging and cutlery, one person said: ‘Paper cutlery… Why?’ It’s absolutely useless and the paper lids on hot drinks are horrible too.’
Another agreed, saying: “McDonald’s new coffee lids are horrible, right up there with wooden cutlery.”
A third dissatisfied customer wrote: “Mcdonald’s has now gone to hot drinks with paper lids… As I understand it, plastic is bad, but why would you want to drink a hot chocolate with shitty topping?” g soaked paper.’
However, one customer seemed to approve of the new change, writing: “Finally new McDonald’s lids, the black plastic was terrible, finally something positive, McDonald’s done right.”

Dozens of customers criticized the move, with many complaining that their eyelids became soaked and collapsed while consuming their drink.
“Our new molded fiber McCafé lids are one of many steps we are taking toward our commitment to making all of our customers’ packaging recyclable.”
They added: “As with any changes we make, the new packaging went through an extensive testing process to gather extensive feedback both internally and externally, allowing us to make any necessary changes before launch.”
Elsewhere, American fast food fans can now buy “nostalgic” Happy Meal toys at McDonald’s.
The restaurant empire brought back its fan-favorite Happy Meal toys for a limited time at participating locations nationwide on January 21.
