McDonald's Boo Buckets for 2024 have no lid and fans say they are less sturdy than those from previous years. But they come with stickers.

McDonald’s Happy Meal Boo Buckets are returning this fall, but there’s been a mixed response on social media.

There are three main complaints about the new designs for 2024: the lack of a lid, boring designs, and poor build quality.

But it’s this last issue that’s particularly frustrating for McDonald’s fans. Many parents notice that children often use the buckets for trick-or-treating, and the absence of a lid makes it easier for others to steal their candy.

Originally released as Halloween Pails in 1986, Boo Buckets were offered most years until they were temporarily discontinued in 2016.

They’re back in 2022, they’re back last year, and they’ll be available again this year starting October 15. They come with Happy Meals, which cost between $4 and $8.

Fans remember the original Halloween Pails for being larger and sturdier with lids to seal them.

They were also traditionally adorned with Halloween-themed designs, such as pumpkins, clocks, and ghosts.

This year, McDonald’s has four basic monster designs in white, orange, green and blue.

One reviewer on Instagram said: ‘Pass this round. Would it honestly kill you to do tapas like in the past?

Another demanded: ‘Bring the tapas!’

The new designs have also drawn criticism, with some users calling them “the worst Boo Bucket designs released yet.”

Another wrote: ‘Just get the original look back.

Some fans have defended the new Boo Buckets, with one user declaring: ‘I think they’re really cute!’
