McDonald’s Australia backflips on major menu change after being slammed by furious customer

Newcastle man Russ is a chemical engineer by profession, but he has won the hearts of hungry Australians around the world with his funny and often rude food reviews.

McDonald’s Australia has backtracked on its unpopular decision to replace Sprite with Sprite No Sugar, following backlash from customers.

The controversial decision was made long before the fast food giant announced it, causing a furor among the gastronomic community.

Russ from Russ Eats made a video in November 2022 complaining about the change and the fact that it seemed like a secret.

He told Femail fans that they will have to wait for his opinion on the network’s “return.”

McDonald’s has revealed that the return to Sprite sugar was a direct response to customer feedback.

“McDonald’s will transition from Sprite Zero Sugar to Sprite in all restaurants nationwide from April to June,” a spokesperson said.

“Coca-Cola Zero Sugar and Frozen Coke Zero Sugar will continue to be available to customers looking for low-sugar or no-sugar alternatives.”

When Russ, who is from Newcastle, first heard that Sprite would be replaced, he headed to his local restaurant in disbelief.

“It doesn’t make sense to me, so let’s see if it’s true,” he said.

He spoke to the woman through the order box and ordered a “medium Sprite, a nice, sugary Sprite.”

She took the order without hesitation and told him the price, but the order on the screen showed that she had placed a Sprite Zero.

“WTF doesn’t even tell me it’s Sprite Zero,” he wrote in the caption while remaining polite in real life.

In his latest video, the Australian comedian who posts on Russ Eats tests the crazy theory that McDonald’s restaurants no longer serve Sprite.

“Do you have any normal Sprites?” he asked, before pressing her to confirm that the rumors were true.

She said that they no longer serve Sprite and that “as far as she knows” she would not return.

McDonald’s Australia has since confirmed the switch to FEMAIL.

‘McDonald’s Australia recently adopted Sprite No Sugar in all its restaurants nationwide. “We look forward to hearing customer feedback on the new drink option,” a spokesperson said.

Surprised, Russ ordered a burger and continued to the last window where he picked up his food and sugar-free drink.

And he wasn’t very impressed when the burger he ordered was bad and the people at the window forgot their straw.

‘No sugar, no straw, no bacon, what an experience that was. We have confirmed that the rumor is true.

Then he took a big sip of the drink.

“Yes, we have confirmed that it tastes like urine,” he said.

Russ’s followers were equally outraged by some revelations that they found out about the sugar-free switch “the same way.”

He quickly confirmed the rumors after ordering a Sprite and being charged for a sugar-free option.

‘I ordered Sprite and they automatically put it in the order as Sprite Zero. At least let me know I’m getting this without sugar,” one man complained.

‘It took me five times. “I asked for a sprite without ice and I kept thinking they just thought I said sugar-free,” said another.

Others harshly criticized the popular chain.

“Weak Maccas piss,” said one man.

“Forcing people to eat Sprite zero at a fast food restaurant doesn’t make any sense,” criticized a second.

And a worker came in to distribute the gossip.

“I have no idea why they changed it, but it happened about two months ago,” they revealed.

The video was posted on Tuesday and has 18,500 views on Instagram.
