Max George has revealed he was fitted with a pacemaker after undergoing emergency heart surgery, which lasted 2.5 hours.
The Wanted star, 36, who has been in hospital for a week due to a 2:1 atrioventricular block and is waiting for a pacemaker, shared an image of her new scar, which is next to a “special tattoo” .
An atrioventricular block is a disorder that occurs when electrical impulses are delayed or blocked from reaching the ventricles.
Max previously revealed that he was having surgery sooner than expected because his heart rate “hadn’t picked up.”
Now, she has shared an update with her Instagram followers following her surgery, revealing that some of her veins collapsed during surgery, causing “problems.”
Max said: ‘Say hello to my little friend! Considering the last 10 days, this is the best Christmas gift I could have asked for.
Max George has revealed he was fitted with a pacemaker during a terrifying 2.5 hour emergency heart surgery.
The Wanted star, 36, who has been in hospital for a week due to a 2:1 atrioventricular block and is waiting for a pacemaker, shared an image of her new scar, which is next to a “special tattoo” .
‘The pacemaker is in place. The operation lasted around 2 and a half hours. The main problem was that some of my veins had collapsed where the wires were supposed to go… But the surgeons and nurses at the NHS have been amazing. I owe everything to them.
“The surgeon was kind enough to put the pacemaker right under a very special tattoo of mine… So I’m sure they’re taking care of it.”
A pacemaker is a small, battery-powered device that prevents the heart from beating too slowly.
Max added: ‘I have a few tests left to do due to swollen lymph nodes in my lungs, but it will be an easy job!
‘It’s time to rest and then face life fully once again Thank you for all your support. It has meant a lot to me and my family.
Earlier in the day, the singer seemed exhausted as he spoke to his fans and told them that he would be taken to the theater soon.
“Now I’m getting ready for the operation, I feel like shit, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.”
It comes just 24 hours after Max shared a photo of himself receiving medication as doctors prepared him for surgery.

The cause of his illness has been a “mystery” and Max, who has battled alcoholism in the past, previously said: “We have canceled some things, like alcohol for example, I haven’t had a drink for four years and -A year and a half so it’s not that.’
It was revealed that his girlfriend Maisie Smith has been struggling to juggle acting in a pantomime and watching him, who is “on her mind 24/7”.
A source told The Sun: ‘It’s been a really worrying and distressing time for Max and Maisie.
“All she wants to do is be at his bedside day and night, but she is committed to her panto show and doesn’t want to let anyone down.
“She has done her best to be able to visit him when the hospital’s visiting hours allow, but it has been a real struggle juggling everything.”
“Max is on her mind 24/7 and what she wants most is for him to get better as soon as possible.”
A representative for Maisie declined to comment when contacted by MailOnline.
Also from his hospital bed this week, Max also shared a sweet post on Instagram wishing his mother Barbara a happy birthday.
Shortly after the singer’s health problem was revealed, his mother told MailOnline: “We’re beside ourselves, but we’re keeping our fingers crossed.”
And now, in an emotional post for her birthday, she wrote: ‘Happy birthday mom!! I don’t know what I would do without you. I love you MTTW. Maximum xxx.’
He added a family photo of him and his mother posing with his girlfriend Maisie Smith, 23, and his older brother Jack.
Speaking outside her home in Swinton last week, Barbara told MailOnline: “Max is in hospital right now and he is very well cared for.”
“I took him to the ER this week where they checked him out. He’s in the best place he can be right now.
“He is very grateful for all the well wishes from his fans and also has all his friends and family around him.”
Max received a boost before his surgery when he was visited by his girlfriend Maisie Smith, who is said to be “really worried” (pictured in 2023).

It comes after Max begged his heart monitor to increase before it appeared to shut down as he shared a new video from his hospital bed last Sunday.
He shared a new video of himself lying in bed as he watched his hand-sized heart rate monitor move from 35 to 34 to 38 before wagging his finger and begging, ‘up!’
The number then dropped to 37 and the star suggested she’s looking for some excitement to help get her heart rate up.
He wrote: ‘Come on @mancity… Order me in, will you?!’
However, the device seemed to turn itself off, leaving Max to exhale, “Brilliant.”
Talking about his pacemaker and pointing to his chest, he said, “The last thing is, 100 percent, I’m going to get a little buddy in here at some point.”
‘Erm, I have a problem with the bottom of my heart, it’s called a blockage. The complicated thing is what I have put in because until I do more tests we won’t know what caused it.’
The Glad You Came hitmaker said it is a ‘mystery’ what has happened to him, although doctors have been able to eliminate some possible causes.
Max said: “It’s actually a bit of a mystery, but that’s the hard part.” It’s the wait. My heart rate is really low. They are monitoring him 24/7, everyone has been amazing.
But the wait is hard. Unfortunately, it’s just one of those things. Whatever I get, I have to move on. We hope for a pacemaker, a pacemaker is good.’
In his initial Instagram post, Max revealed that he will be spending Christmas in the hospital.
He wrote on Instagram: “Yesterday I felt very bad and they took me to the hospital. Unfortunately, after some tests, they found out that I have some problems with my heart.
Speaking outside her home in Swinton last week, Barbara told MailOnline: “Max is in hospital right now and is very well looked after.”
‘I have many more tests to determine the extent of the problems and what surgery I will need to recover.
‘It’s going to be a tough few weeks/months…and Christmas in a hospital bed wasn’t exactly what I had planned!
‘But, as always, I am surrounded by the love and support of my wonderful partner Maisie, her family, my family and friends… and I am 100% in the best place.
‘Although this is a huge shock and certainly a setback, it is something I will face with all my might! I consider myself very lucky that this was detected when it occurred.
‘Sorry if I bore you with updates in the next few weeks… I’ve probably been in bed for a month and there’s not THAT much to do!’
