A health and wellness company is suing Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving, alleging the point guard bilked it out of nearly $400,000.
Elite Mind Solutions filed suit Monday in New York and was acquired by sports not long after.
The plaintiffs allege that Irving hired them and their high-profile therapist, Natasha McCartney, in the spring for a retreat he hosted for friends and family from June 28 to July 2.
According to the lawsuit, Irving initially told the organization there would be between 50 and 60 attendees at the retreat. However, the plaintiffs claimed that days before the event, Irving informed them that attendance would be close to 115 people.
The lawsuit claims nearly 150 were present once the recall began. However, the company carried out all the exercises and therapeutic sessions for which they were contracted.
Kyrie Irving sued by health and wellness company for breach of contract
Irving allegedly failed to pay a $390,000 bill from Elite Mind Solutions for a withdrawal in late June.
Additionally, the plaintiffs allege that one of the people who attended the retreat died during the event. During which, they provided crisis management and grief counseling services.
According to the document, Irving failed to hold up his end of the deal when he was billed $390,710 for services. As a result, they are suing Irving, who has earned more than $300 million as an NBA player, for breach of contract.
The plaintiffs seek the money they are owed and attorneys’ fees.
Neither Irving’s attorneys nor the plaintiffs’ group have commented on the matter.
In June 2023, Irving agreed to a three-year, $126 million contract to remain with the Dallas Mavericks after being traded from the Brooklyn Nets earlier that year.
Since joining forces with Luka Doncic in Dallas, Irving appeared in the NBA Finals before losing to one of his former teams, the Boston Celtics.
Irving is currently averaging 24.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game as the Mavericks sit in fifth place in the Western Conference with a 13-8 record.
