Maurizio Sarri ‘on the point of raiding his former club Chelsea for left-back Emerson Palmieri – with the 63-year-old excited about a reunion with the Italian in Lazio’
- Maurizio Sarri is reportedly excited about signing Chelsea left-back Emerson Palmieri
- The 27-year-old Italian defender was loaned to the French Lyon last season
- And Lazio manager Sarri would be interested in a reunion with Palmieri
Maurizio Sarri has made Chelsea defender Emerson Palmieri a priority transfer this summer, according to reports in Italy.
The Lazio boss worked with Emerson in his only season with Chelsea in 2018-19, where they won the Europa League, and is keen to see a reunion.
Football Italia have reported that the left-back is equally interested in a return to Italy, while Il Corriere dello Sport claimed the Serie A side is ready to enter into talks with Chelsea about a transfer.

The 27-man Italian star – who won the European Championship with the Azzurri last summer – was loaned to France’s Lyon last season, where he played 29 games in Ligue 1 and 36 in all competitions, scoring one goal.
Marcos Alonso was largely used as a backup to Ben Chilwell on the left wing, but with Alonso potentially coming to Barcelona this summer, Blues boss Thomas Tuchel may want to keep Emerson as cover and competition for Chilwell.
The Premier League side estimates him at around £13million, and with a wage of around £80,000 a week, Lazio may have to negotiate a lower fee or salary if the deal goes through.
And Sarri, 63, would be interested in reuniting with the 27-year-old defender in the Italian capital
But Chelsea would be willing to let him go if a suitable offer comes in, with money needed to go after their summer goals, Raheem Sterling and Jules Kunde.
Emerson has Serie A experience, having been loaned to Palermo and two full seasons at Roma from 2014-2017.
Juventus are also interested, but would reportedly have to sell Alex Sandro or Luca Pellegrini first.
