While there are no plans with the Football Association to remove boss Gareth Southgate, who is under contract until 2024, Pochettino could emerge as a candidate for the job in England if Southgate leaves after the World Cup.

There were rumors that Pochettino would return to France with Nice, before being charged.

Nice denied attempting to bring Pochettino to the club, despite Lucien Favre’s side winning just twice in eight games.

The FA have shown in the past that they are keen to select an English manager, leaving Newcastle’s Eddie Howe and Chelsea’s Graham Potter leading contenders.

But toThe FA technical director John McDermott would be responsible for choosing the next England boss and he worked closely with Pochettino at Tottenham.

Pochettino is also well known by some of the squad’s top players, including captain Harry Kane, Kyle Walker and Eric Dier.

After Monday’s 3-3 draw with Germany, Southgate will now turn his attention to Qatar with England in a group that includes Iran, the US and Wales.

Southgate’s current contract was signed last November and will run until the summer of 2024.

It is estimated to be worth around £5 million a year.
