Mauricio Pochettino is scheduled for face-to-face talks with England’s in-demand under-21 hero Levi Colwill this week.

The pair will meet to give Pochettino a chance to outline his plans for the highly-skilled defender in person.

Several clubs are monitoring developments with Colwill, including Brighton, where he spent last season on loan and which already saw a £30m summer offer to sign the 20-year-old turned down permanently.

Chelsea are determined to retain academy product Colwill, insisting he is not for sale and ready to offer him an upgraded contract, although the path to regular first-team football on offer at Stamford Bridge will be a major factor for the young man.

After impressing left-footed Colwill at Brighton, he further enhanced his Under-21 UEFA Euro reputation, helping Lee Carsley’s side keep six consecutive clean sheets and go the entire tournament without conceding a goal en route to lifting the trophy. .

Colwill and his Chelsea team-mate and Euro Cup winner Noni Madueke will return to Chelsea next Monday in time to join the squad that Pochettino will take to the United States for the Blues’ five-game pre-season tour.

Prior to that, the pair, who had some time off before the tournament, were given this week off after their Euro exploits and both leave, with Colwill also expected to fit into his talks with Pochettino.

Pochettino did have contact with Colwill and Madueke before Saturday’s final against Spain, which Lee Carsley’s team won 1-0.

Pochettino said in his presentation on Friday: “We spoke yesterday with Levi and Noni. One I know, Noni, from Tottenham, in the Under-18s. Of course Levi didn’t know but I introduced myself with him. I wished them all the best tomorrow .

‘It is true that it is difficult for me because it is Spain-England [in the final]. I wish you the best. We are waiting for them to be with the team, I think the day we fly to the United States, they will join us.
