Chelsea fans were left divided on social media following comments made by Mauricio Pochettino ahead of the Premier League last weekend.

After suffering a poor run of form earlier in the season under the Argentine, the Blues have enjoyed a resurgence in recent months and have lost just one of their last 14 Premier League games.

Languishing in 12th place in February, Chelsea’s excellent run of late has left them within striking distance of finishing in fifth place with just one game remaining.

The club currently sit three points behind a struggling Spurs side in the race to secure the Europa League, although they have a better goal difference than Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Heading into the final game of his first season at the club, Pochettino was asked if he would like to see Tottenham lose on Sunday.

Chelsea could finish fifth on the final day if they win and Spurs are beaten by Sheffield United.

“No, not really,” the former Spurs boss replied.

‘We need to do our job and then see what’s happening. I never wish bad things on the opponent.

“It’s always about us deserving to win and hopefully we can take advantage of the situation that gives us the chance to be in a better place.”

Pochettino’s comments outraged some of the club’s fans, with some even calling for him to be sacked in the summer.

One wrote: ‘Fire him please. This is a crime.’

Another added: “It’s not Chelsea and it never will be.”

Another fan insisted: “I will never support him again, all of you who let him change his mind should be ashamed.”

Other Blues fans disagreed, insisting Pochettino’s comments were benign given his previous association with the north London club.

One wrote: “Guys he’s a former Spurs manager who probably has fond memories of his time there, as much as he wants to he won’t criticize you publicly.”

A second fan agreed: “He’s clearly not a Chelsea fan but who cares, as long as he wins games for us we’ll be fine.”
