Matthew Perry's ex-girlfriend has questioned whether a ketamine overdose caused his death, saying he was terrified of needles.

Matthew Perry’s ex-girlfriend has questioned whether a ketamine overdose caused his death, saying he was terrified of needles.

The actor was reportedly injected with ketamine dozens of times before his death in October 2023, and five people were charged this month with supplying or administering the fatal drug to the Friends star.

But his ex-girlfriend and former assistant Kayti Edwards, 47, said The mirror who often said she would never try to inject drugs into her body because she was terrified of needles, a phobia she says even stopped her from getting tattoos.

“That’s what’s strange to me,” Edwards said. “Matthew always told me that he would never, ever, ever use needles or inject anything into his body.”

The Friends star’s ex-girlfriend and assistant Kayti Edwards claimed Perry told her she would “never, ever, ever” use needles.

Edwards continued: “I often saw him very high and doing a lot of different drugs. It always scared me a lot and I would tell him that he had to stop mixing all that stuff, telling him ‘you’re going to die’.”

‘But he was like… ‘You only die when you use needles… and I would never, ever, ever do that.’

Edwards dated Perry in 2006, and although she also worked as his assistant for less than a year in 2011, the relationship remained close until his shocking death last year.

He said that when he received news of the actor’s death, which reportedly occurred after his then assistant Kenneth Iwamasa injected him with a lethal dose of ketamine, he immediately doubted the circumstances.

“When I heard that he let his assistant do it, I just couldn’t understand it, especially since he had no medical training,” Edwards said.

Iwamasa pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute ketamine causing death, and faces up to 25 years in prison; it was later revealed that Perry told his assistant to “inject me with a big dope” before he was found dead in his hot tub.

Edwards said that while investigating the case, he was also disturbed by the lack of drugs or paraphernalia found at Perry’s $5.2 million Los Angeles mansion.

“If she had been injected with a large amount of ketamine, there would have been a needle and traces of ketamine in the house. Where did it all go?” he asked.

“Why did the assistant inject him with all those drugs and leave? I always stayed with Matthew if he was on drugs because I didn’t want him to overdose or have anything happen to him. I could call 911, but why wasn’t his assistant there?”
