Matthew Morrison has announced his departure from his role as a judge on So You Think You Can Dance.

The 43-year-old was on the series for a week before leaving what a us weekly font described as a ‘minor infraction’.

He himself confessed that ‘I did not follow the production protocols of the competition, which prevented me from being able to judge the competition fairly’.

Matthew, Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss and JoJo Siwa were the judges for the 17th and current season, which kicked off with an audition episode last Wednesday.

However, for this Friday, he announced: ‘Having the opportunity to be a judge on So You Think You Can Dance was an incredible honor for me. Therefore, it is my deepest regret to inform you that I will be leaving the show.’

The Glee heartthrob admitted, “After filming the audition rounds for the show and completing the selection of the 12 finalists, I did not follow the production protocols of the competition, which prevented me from being able to judge the competition fairly.”

He continued, “I cannot apologize enough to everyone involved and I will be watching alongside all of you in what I know will be one of the best seasons yet.”

FOX revealed to Us Weekly that they “will soon be announcing a new judge for the series for the next wave of the competition which will kick off on June 15 with the top 12 for America’s voting.”

In an interview posted online by world of broadway Earlier this week, Matthew gushed about the show: ‘I love this show. From the beginning, I really, really feel like I grew up with the show in a way.

Matthew said that he believed his previous work in Broadway musicals “gives me credibility” to perform his duties as a judge.

“I grew up as a break dancer, like when I was very young and then I moved on to, you know, ballet and tap and jazz, and my first Broadway roles before I started doing lead roles were as a dancer. I was in the set and made my way through the ranks on Broadway. I feel like I studied and trained like all these people are doing.’

Meanwhile, tWitch rose to fame as a contestant on the series and later achieved international recognition as a sidekick on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

After becoming the runner-up on So You Think You Can Dance in 2008, he returned to shake a leg on the show several times before becoming a judge in 2018.

Although he was out of the series during the 2019 season, he has been declared a permanent judge for the current season.
