Matthew McConaughey looked like a doting father when he took his 15-year-old daughter Vida to the UT women’s basketball game against Tennessee on Thursday night.
The Oscar winner, 55, who graduated from UT Austin in 1993 and is a professor of practice at Moody College of Communication, seemed focused like a laser as she watched the Longhorns take on the Lady Vols.
After the exciting game, both McConaughey and his teenager, whom he shares with his wife Camila Alves, seemed excited about their team emerging victorious from the Southeastern Conference.
Much to their delight, the Longhorns scored the final four points of the game and escaped with a narrow 80-76 victory.
The How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days actor recently shared a loving birthday tribute on Vida’s birthday earlier this month, January 3.
‘Life. 15 years. Thank you for being my tech guru, so smart, and for loving growing things. “I love Papai,” she captioned a photo of her childhood gardening in nature.

Vida, who earned her first acting credit in 2021 after landing a small role in her father’s film Sing 2, is the only child of McConaughey and Alves.
In 2020, his father revealed to People that she “really likes to paint and draw and loves graphic novels.”
In addition to their little girl, the couple share sons Levi, 16, and Livingston, 12.
McConaughey is frequently seen on the campus of his alma mater, where he serves as the self-proclaimed “minister of culture” of the University of Texas at Austin.
The role apparently aims to cultivate a strong sense of pride in the university, not only among students, but also among the community as a whole.
He joined UT Austin’s Radio, Television and Film department as a faculty member in 2019. He had previously served as a “visiting instructor” beginning in 2015.
He graduated from college in 1993 with a degree in Radio-Television-Film. He originally intended to pursue a law degree.
McConaughey, who believes the Moody Center is a “natural extension” of his role as culture minister, partnered with Oak View Group, Live Nation Entertainment/C3 Presents, the University of Texas and Dell Technologies to bring the Moody Center to life.

Plans for the arena have been in the works since late 2018, according to Texas Monthly.
The Dazed And Confused star contributed greatly to the overall atmosphere of the Moody Center with an emphasis on fan participation, according to Austin360.
‘That means more noise. “That means more of a live experience, not only for the fan but for the player, for the band,” he explained to the outlet in 2021.
The Moody Center has more than 15,000 seats and cost a staggering $375 million to build. It is located on the campus of the University of Texas at Austin, in the heart of downtown Austin.
The venue was designed with concerts in mind and promises to “provide state-of-the-art amenities and top-notch hospitality for artists and fans.”

She would officially return to Texas in 2012 after marrying Alves.
After returning to his home state, McConaughey enthusiastically immersed himself in Austin culture, which included frequent appearances at the University of Texas at Austin’s numerous sporting events.
In 2021, he spoke to Jimmy Fallon about his decision not to run for governor of Texas while promoting his animated film Sing 2.
“Well, it was a two-year consideration and I really made the decision in the last few months,” Matthew told the host.
Wanting to focus on his family, he admitted that politics “is not my category at this point in my life.”

Last year, he and his wife reflected on their move from Hollywood to Texas in search of more privacy while gracing the cover of Southern Living.
‘We lived a happy life in Malibu. We had a beautiful house that we built together and we put a lot of love and care into it. We were raising our children there. He was growing everything in the garden. I had bees making honey,’ the mother of three children reflected.
After a family crisis brought her family to Austin, Texas, to help her mother and two siblings for several weeks, Alves noticed a change in her spouse’s energy, becoming lighter and happier.
She went on to remember seeing him when they stopped at a red light with a “peaceful but confident and energetic look” on his face.
‘You want to move here, don’t you?’ she remembered asking him, to which he responded, “Yes.”
His response was: ‘Son of a bitch.’
“As soon as I laughed, the light turned green and off we went,” he added, noting that she quickly agreed.

McConaughey admitted that the transition from Malibu to Texas was more difficult for his wife, since she only lived in Brazil, New York and Los Angeles.
Still, he noted that his upbringing in Brazil was not much different.
“We grew up saying ‘Yes, ma’am’ and ‘No, sir’ or, as I should say, ‘Yes, ma’am’ and ‘Yes, sir,'” he said. “It takes me back to how I was raised.”
Additionally, he described some of his traditions in Texas, including “going to church” every Sunday and how sports have become “a stronger tradition for the kids.”

Some of the biggest draws for the actor upon returning to his home state are that “a mile here in Texas feels like a mile” and “an hour feels like 60 minutes.”
“Time slowed down,” McConaughey explained. ‘The clock was fine, the biological clock. And part of that is ritual; Part of that is simply the distance between places and the way people move. But it’s also hospitality, courtesy, common sense, lack of drama.’
After nearly ten years in Texas, Alves said he can confidently call Texas home.
She and McConaughey met at Hollywood’s Hyde nightclub in 2006, at the height of her romantic comedy fame while she was working as a model.
