Matteo Guendouzi was left out of the Arsenal team on Sunday for their 4-0 win against Newcastle after he had made no impression on head coach Mikel Arteta during the winter break of the club in Dubai.
It was the first time that Guendouzi was left out of a Premier League matchday team when he was available since joining the Gunners in 2018.
As reported by The mirror, Arteta was not satisfied with the performance of the 20-year-old in training in Dubai.
Matteo Guendouzi was omitted from the Arsenal team to face Mikel Arteta
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe, Mesut Ozil and Alexandre Lacazette all scored when Arsenal returned to winning days, but Guendouzi was not involved.
Guendouzi was a regular player in the starting line-up for Arsenal under Unai Emery, but has not been so prominent since the Spaniard’s departure.
There is a lot of competition for places in the midfield of Arsenal and Dani Ceballos produced an impressive screen.
Allegedly Arteta was not impressed by the displays of Guendouzi during the training in Dubai
Ceballos was previously on the periphery of the procedure, with Arteta in his post-match press conference stating that Guendouzi could use Real Madrid’s borrower as an example.
Arteta said: ‘Dani Ceballos is a good example. He was injured and when he started training I didn’t think he was fit enough.
“He has completely changed his behavior and trained like an animal. I thought he was the best player on the field. “
Guendouzi will hope to return to the Arsenal team for the Europa League game to Olympiacos on Thursday.
The 20-year-old already has 77 appearances for Arsenal, but has work to do to relocate himself.
With Arsenal’s injury problems started to clear up, Rob Holding and Ainsley Maitland-Niles also remained outside the team for the game against Newcastle.
