Matt Gaetz threatens to try to force Kevin McCarthy out of office if he opposes impeachment of Biden

Firebrand Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz said lawmakers will soon force a vote on impeachment of President Joe Biden – and warned President Kevin McCarthy could face the consequences if he tried to stop them.
The lawmaker urged fellow Republicans to “take the lead” in investigating the 80-year-old president when they return to Washington next week.
He also said McCarthy “may not have the job long” if he “obstructs” a trial in Congress over Biden’s ties to his son Hunter’s foreign business deals.
McCarthy has agreed to lower the requirements for a motion to remove him as president in negotiations to secure his election in a 15-round election battle in January.
Gaetz is now threatening to use the “toolbox” procedure if impeachment is not on the agenda next week.
“I traveled the country and spoke to many Americans. They’re disappointed with House Republicans right now,” Gaetz said. Conservative radio host Todd Starnes on Tuesday.
“They think we haven’t fought a substantial battle to defeat the worst elements of this Biden administration.

“When we come back to Washington, we have to take the initiative.
“That means forcing impeachment votes. And if President McCarthy gets in our way, he may not have this job for long.
The Republicans on the House Oversight Committee have been investigating Biden and issues surrounding his family’s overseas business deals since his inauguration in January 2020.
But the party is facing an internal split over an impeachment vote.
Right-wing lawmakers fully support the proposal, while more moderate MPs have resisted.
The issue will also be at the center of government shutdown negotiations as the September 30 deadline approaches.
Marjorie Taylor Greene vowed to vote against government funding if impeachment proceedings had not begun.
The White House has dismissed all suggestions Joe was involved in his son Hunter’s business deals and insists Biden’s impeachment campaign is politically motivated.
Ian Sams, White House spokesman for oversight and investigations, criticized Gaetz’s comments.

“Last week, Marjorie Taylor Greene threatened to dissolve the government if she didn’t get an impeachment vote, and now Gaetz is threatening to oust President McCarthy if he doesn’t give them what they want,” he said. Sams said.
“If President McCarthy opens an impeachment inquiry simply to throw red meat at the right, it will prove once again that this is nothing but a costly, illegitimate, and politically motivated exercise, no rooted in reality.”
