Matt Damon Says He And Boyfriend Ben Affleck Will Write More Scripts

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck plan to write more together now that they’re no longer so “inefficient.”

Reunited to work on The Last Duel, the friends admitted that writing the film with Nicole Holofcener was a very different process than when they wrote their breakthrough film Good Will Hunting, which was released in 1997, as they have a better understanding. of ‘structure’.

And now that they know how to work faster, they’ll “write a lot more in the future,” Matt says.

“I think the writing process for Good Will Hunting was so inefficient,” he said Entertainment tonight. “You know, because we didn’t really understand the structure, we wrote thousands of pages.”

He added: “We’d say, ‘Well, what if this happened?’ and then we’d just write different scenes.

“So we had all these disparate scenes and then we tried to put them together into something that looked like a movie.

“But this time, you know, it’s a story about perspective. So there are two knights and then there is Lady Marguerite. So Ben and I wrote the male perspectives and Nicole Holofcener wrote the female perspective. That’s kind of the architecture of that film.

Damon also said that all the experience he and Ben now have in Hollywood has helped.

“By making films for 30 years, we gradually learned about structure and the process went a lot faster,” said the Bourne Identity star.

“And so I think we’ll be writing a lot more in the future, just because it didn’t turn out to be as time-consuming as we thought. It was actually a lot of fun.’

And because the two stars now have children, they were able to organize their days better to spend their time efficiently.

He added: “We used to have no deadlines because nobody cared what we were doing, nobody was waiting for the script, we were unemployed so we literally had nothing else to do.

“And now we can build up the time, it’s a bit more structured, isn’t it? Like, “Okay, let’s write from 10 to 2, you know, because we can drop the kids off and then we can pick up the kids.” We really have lives now and that’s nice, finally.’
