Nathan Lane and Matt Bomer have signed on for Mid-Century Modern, a modern update of Golden Girls set in Palm Springs from Hulu producer Ryan Murphy.
Nathan, 68, will play the Dorothy-like character created by Bea Arthur, while Matt, 46, will play the dimwitted Rose-like character that Betty White made her adore.
Legendary actress Linda Lanvin, 86, will play the role of Sophia as the mother of Nathan’s character.
Will & Grace creators Max Mutchnick and David Kohan developed the series and James Burrow will direct the pilot. Variety reported.
The series’ tagline reads, “As a chosen family, they prove that no matter how hard things get, there’s always someone around to remind you that it would be better if you had neck surgery.”

In the original Golden Girls pilot, one of the four roommates was gay.
‘The series follows three best friends, gay gentlemen of a certain age, who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together in Palm Springs, where the richest lives with his mother and a naked housekeeper from the Generation Z,’ Hulu said in a statement.
“Bunny, a successful businessman with one foot in retirement, is always looking for love, but first he has to be convinced that he is worthy of it.
“Like her son, Sybil’s strengths are her weaknesses: wise, caring, and iconoclastic, which sometimes means she’s critical, stifling, and amoral,” the synopsis read.
‘Jerry left the Mormon Church and his marriage in his early 20s after his wife informed him and the rest of the congregation that he was gay.
‘Now a Latter-day Saint in the literal sense of the term, Jerry is pure of heart. He is also hard in body and soft in head,’ he concluded.
‘Mid-Century Modern stars Nathan Lane as Bunny Schneiderman, Matt Bomer as Jerry Frank and Linda Lavin as Sybil Schneiderman, Bunny’s mother.’
