Mats Hummels and Borussia Dortmund coach Edin Terzic were involved in a “violent confrontation” before the Champions League final earlier this month.

Dortmund beat the odds to reach the biggest game in club football, but fell short against Real Madrid at Wembley.

Days before the match, Hummels, somewhat surprisingly, came out to harshly criticize his coach’s tactics during their disappointing Bundesliga campaign.

Dortmund finished fifth and veteran centre-back Hummels was not very enthusiastic about the way the team approached their games against those above them.

He told Bild: “I was furious because I thought Borussia Dortmund shouldn’t play like that, against any opponent in the world.”

‘I didn’t think this could go on like this. I felt insulted to my honor for being on the field with that kit. So submissive, so inferior in football terms. The two games in Stuttgart and the away game in Leverkusen. “That was a barricade with 11 men in the box.”

Their report states that the two men were involved in a confrontation that became violent and “so heated that the club discussed personal consequences.”

The pair were “forced to make amends” to focus on the Champions League final, but Sky Sports say Hummels is now only willing to stay at Signal Iduna Park if Terzic leaves.

Bild adds that it is ‘guaranteed’ that one of them will say goodbye to the club this summer.

Hummels is in the middle of his second spell at Dortmund and last season was his 14th with the club.

He will not participate in Euro 2024 as he is left out of the German team.

“I can understand the idea that a group has been growing since March,” Hummels told Bild. “It is bitter for me as an individual, because I am currently one of the five best defenders in Germany,” he said. “I have the confidence in myself to say that.”

When asked about the reasons for his omission, Hummels said: “If I understood him (Nagelsmann) correctly, it was more about age-related issues, such as physical condition.”

“If I had had a phase like the one I had recently before (the friendly matches in) March, maybe I would have been called up (and) also for the Euro Cup team.”
