Jon Rahm attacks Masters organizers for their refusal to suspend play on Friday

Jon Rahm lashed out at Masters organizers for their refusal to suspend play when 40mph winds caused chaos during Friday’s second round.

The defending champion snuck into the weekend, finishing one stroke shy of the cut line, after a four-over-par 76 on Friday.

Rahm now sits 11 shots behind leaders Scottie Scheffler, Bryson DeChambeau and Max Homa after a brutal second day in which Augusta was battered by the elements.

“It’s the toughest golf course I’ve seen in a long time.”“Rahm said.

A couple of times I wondered why we were out there. Especially when I got to 18 and saw the entire front of the green filled with sand. It’s rolling a little differently.

“A couple of times I asked myself why we were there,” said the Spaniard.

‘I understand that they want us to finish. I imagine they came very close to calling it off a few times, especially when we were on the 11th green and we had those massive flurries every two minutes or so. “It was extremely difficult.”

No one in the course shot below Ludvig Aberg’s par 69 on Friday, with only eight players shooting under par.

Rahm’s hopes of retaining the green jacket are all but over and the Spaniard was left frustrated by the speed of play in such difficult conditions.

“You just leave the ball and it’s very close to moving,” he said. ‘Not only that, how long did it take us to play?

“Over six hours to play just because they had to blow the greens between groups, and then when you get to a group, people back up and back up. It’s, again, borderline. It was very, very close.”
