Fans of Masterchef Australia are disappointed with the latest season, complaining that the Channel 10 cooking show lacks ‘energy’ and is ‘boring’.
Several viewers have commented that the show is not what it used to be and lacks context and backstories of the contestants, with barely any details about their personal and family lives.
“Has anyone felt there’s a definite energy missing from this final season?” a fan made a post on the Masterchef Australia Facebook fan page.
“It has nothing to do with Jock’s passing, because the series was completed long before. For me it is mainly that there is no background story for the participants.’
Other viewers said they thought tough judge Andy Allen had “taken over the show.”

“He’s so negative about some of the contestants, that by the end of their cooking time, their self-confidence is shattered, so they start doubting themselves,” said one fan.
“This season really isn’t the same,” commented another. “Even the contestants are not that good compared to all previous seasons.”

A fan defended the program, pointing out that the series was largely filmed during the pandemic and that several contestants and crew members fell ill, leaving the team with more problems than ever before.
‘That’s how often participants were sick, the crew was sick and all kinds of problems had to be solved that were not normal. Hence the changed format,” they said.
Others agreed, saying they thought this season is “heavily edited” after Jock Zonfrillo’s death.

No filming dates have been set for the new season, but applicants have been told they must be over 18 by the time October 16 arrives.
There is still no word on who will replace Zonfrillo as judge after his tragic death.

Zonfrillo passed away on April 30 at the age of 46. He was buried in May in a private funeral in Sydney surrounded by 200 family and friends.
There are also swirling rumors that hosts Melissa Leong and Andy Allen could be planning to leave the show as they continue to grapple with the tragic death of their co-star.
Some fans are convinced that the entire hosting panel may be replaced altogether.
