A Massachusetts doctor has been accused of exposing himself and masturbating in the seat next to a 14-year-old girl during a 10-hour flight from Honolulu to Boston.
Sudipta Mohanty, 33, who works at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, appeared in federal court in the city on Thursday, charged with one count of lewd, indecent and lewd acts.
The court heard most of the passengers were asleep when the girl noticed Mohanty’s leg ‘bouncing’ under a blanket next to her halfway through the Hawaiian Airlines flight in May last year.
The girl was traveling with her grandparents who also slept across the aisle as Mohanty pulled back the blanket, exposing herself and ejaculating.
She felt ‘disgusted and very uncomfortable’, overheard the court and moved to another seat when Mohanty got up to clean herself in the toilet, but didn’t tell her family until after the plane landed in Boston.

Mohanty, a primary care physician at Boston Hospital, “seemed visibly nervous” when questioned by two FBI agents at his home in Cambridge.
“His hands and voice were shaking,” officials reported.
Mohanty denied the allegation, telling officers, “I have no recollection of it.”
Court documents claim Mohanty was traveling with a young woman who earlier in the flight was ‘holding hands and cuddling’.
“They were asking ‘basic’ questions like, ‘What’s your favorite color? “which (the daughter) found strange,” the affidavit states.
Mohanty was released on bail and ordered to stay away from people under the age of 18 and any place where they might congregate.
He faces up to 90 days in jail and a fine of up to $5,000 if convicted.

Acting U.S. Attorney Joshua Levy said in a statement: “Everyone, especially children, has the absolute right not to be exposed to lewd conduct while traveling.”
“If you engage in the type of unlawful behavior alleged here, you will be caught and held accountable wherever it occurs,” he added.
