Anyone who has worked from home for the past 14 months and participated in endless Zoom conferences may have become self-aware about their ‘jeck’.
For those unfamiliar with the phrase ‘jeck’ is the fleshy area around our jawlines, jaws and necks.
Forced to stare at our faces for hours, it’s no wonder Google has seen a 160 percent increase in searches for treatments to rejuvenate the area.
Dermatologist Dr. Justine Kluk says, “Working from home that uses the muscles in the lower face, jaw, or neck, such as tilting the head down to look at devices, will accentuate the cheeks.”

So is it possible to reverse the ravages on our faces and necks from the lifestyle the pandemic has forced upon us, while avoiding expensive treatments such as subcutaneous fillers and skin tightening lasers?
Facial expert Abigail James says, ‘The new’ jeck ‘masks can help boost hydration, temporarily plumping in fine lines and reducing that crepe look that often bother your skin and décolletage.
“Household appliances that use LED light technology also work well, as they have been scientifically proven to boost collagen – the stuff that helps firm and lift the area.”
Here’s what happened when I put my jeck on the line to test out some of the latest treatments. . .
FOR AN IMMEDIATE BOOST
Wishful Chin Lift Sculpting Sheet Mask, £ 8 each, boots.com
A thick cotton fabric mask that hooks over your ears to convert and lift your jawline in a sling-like style. The hydrogel inner layer is infused with niacinamide (vitamin B3), moisturizing peptides and peppermint.
The fabric feels like a sports bandage and makes your chin feel lifted and swaddled like a baby. Since it felt so comfortable and cooling, I left it on for much longer than during the 30 minutes the packaging advised.
Verdict: My husband couldn’t tell the difference, but I noticed my cheeks looked puckered and my face looked slimmer and tighter. 4/5
FOR LASTING RESULTS
CurrentBody Skin Neck & Dec Perfector, £ 375, currentbody.com
Donna said an age spot on her chest started to fade after two weeks of using CurrentBody Skin Neck & Dec Perfector (pictured)
A rechargeable LED device that molds and fits around your neck and décolleté. It uses red LED lights to stimulate collagen and infrared to stimulate skin cell renewal.
Although it looked daunting to set up, it turned out to be easy to use, light and cozy to the touch. A band fits around your neck like a choker, while a second part covers the décolleté. I wore it daily just after my morning shower as it works best on clean dry skin.
Verdict: Pricey, but the science behind red light therapy makes it worth the investment. I noticed a large age spot on my chest started to fade after two weeks of use, even though I get the best results after a month of use, at least three times a week. This is in my routine for it to be expected. 5/5
FOR ANY GLOW
Shiseido Vital Perfection LiftDefine Radiance Facemask, £ 79.05 for six, johnlewis.com.
Donna said that Shiseido Vital Perfection LiftDefine Radiance Facemask (pictured) gave her skin a nourished and radiant feeling
A two-piece mask for your face and jawline, it is enriched with ingredients that promise to brighten the skin, smooth wrinkles, and lift and tighten the jaw area. It is tricky to apply because you have to put the face mask on first and then attach the chin strap over it by hooking it around your ears. But once on, it felt wonderful on the skin. It is infused with plenty of serum so that your skin really gets moisture during the ten minute application.
Verdict: My skin remained nourished and radiant, but I couldn’t see any difference from my jawline. Overall, it is overpriced and does not live up to its lifting promise. 2/5
A FAST SOLUTION FOR NECK CRACKS
Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Neck Gels, £ 35 for four, feelunique.com
Donna said Skyn Iceland Hydro Cool Firming Neck Gels (pictured) provides a quick fix for smoothing necklines
A single use gel patch sealed with firming and smoothing ingredients such as niacinamide – to stimulate cell renewal and circulation – and collagen to tighten and smooth creases on the neck.
The neck wrap adhered so well to my skin that I could wear it all over the house. The hydrogel immediately felt cooling and while it didn’t drown in the product, it went where it needed to go.
Verdict: If you’re looking for a quick fix to get rid of those ugly deep horizontal necklines this is great. But the results don’t last more than a few hours. 3/5
