A self-proclaimed social media – & # 39; influencer & # 39; who fell into the skull of a woman the day after Christmas would have been imprisoned if she were a man, her victim believes.

Wannabe Instagram star Mary Jean Korkou, 24, walked out of a court in Queensland on Tuesday after her lawyer successfully claimed that she was publicly ashamed on social media when the message about her criminal became known.

Her friend Murphy Fitzgerald had been imprisoned years earlier in an almost identical nightclub bashing on another guy.

The Brisbane dental assistant, who has just over 5,500 followers on Instagram, left 26-year-old Reegan Keevil in the hospital with a broken eye socket, cheekbone, and jaw after the December 26 attack in a pub in Hervey Bay.

She had been to Murphy when she attacked his ex-girlfriend.

Mrs. Keevil – a QLD department for child safety, youth and women's worker – and her mother Krista have overturned Judge Ian Dearden's decision.

"We hear all too often about the failure of the justice system by victims, well this time the victim was me, the justice system failed me and favored the criminal who almost took my life", said Keevil.

Boos I am angry that someone I barely know has permanently damaged me physically and mentally. I am angry that someone can hurt me and change my life forever, intentionally, without any kind of regret or apology. & # 39;

& # 39; I think it's a sexual affair, & # 39; said mama Krista. & # 39; The whole reaction was really bad at first. & # 39;

Crown prosecutor Gavin Webber told Hervey Bay District Court Korkou walked past her victim with Fitzgerald, who stopped to talk to his ex girlfriend.

Seconds later, Korkou hit Mrs. Keevil so hard that she lost her position.

She then imitated her in the groin while a disorientated Mrs. Keevil pulled out to protect herself.

Mrs. Keevil had a re-constructive operation on her face and had inserted titanium plates to repair the fractures.

Murphy is also no stranger to violence, after spending six months in prison in 2014 for bashing a man at a nightclub in Hervey Bay.

Just like his girlfriend in the social media, Fitzgerald threw only one blow and his victim was operated on to refocus his jaw and cheekbone.

Korkou pleaded guilty to one count of serious bodily injury and was sentenced and sentenced to 18 months in prison, but unlike her boyfriend, it was completely suspended for two years.

Krista said the police dragged their feet to accuse Korkou for not taking the girl-to-girl attack seriously.

Reegan Keevil and mother Krista feel that the Queensland legal system has abandoned them and do not take cowardly cowards seriously enough. They also think that the police do not think that hitting women is a priority

& # 39; It took three and a half weeks, constantly calling them to sue her & # 39 ;, she told Daily Mail Australia. & # 39; And there were no bail conditions, there was nothing and Reegan has titanium plates in her face and multiple fractures and we just couldn't believe it. & # 39;

The worried mother said she had tried to raise the matter with the authorities, but had hit a wall.

& # 39; If that was a guy who hit her, or a guy who hit a guy, it would have been a very different story and they keep telling me "no no that's not the case," she said.

The sentence has destroyed both mother and daughter.

& # 39; We just couldn't believe it, & # 39; said Krista.

Judge Dearden condemned Korkou in sentencing, but accepted that she had shown regret through her guilty plea and shame about her behavior.

& # 39; Shame and shame are not regrets, & # 39; said Krista.

& # 39; There was no regrets for her. She did not apologize at all. She didn't say sorry, she didn't offer anything, there was no fine, no community service – it was just walking out the door. & # 39;

Mrs. Keevil said her attack was just one of the many attacks that ravaged the southern region of the state.

& # 39; It's getting too dangerous to socialize in this country. Every weekend, only in Hervey Bay, I hear another person be cowardly, & she posted on social media.

& # 39; How many people must be injured, how many people must die, how many people must live in fear before something is done?

& # 39; For the QLD Police, Criminal Justice System, I am disappointed and disgusting to say the least. You have now set a precedent for all cowards. & # 39;

Krista said as she let go of her daughter's attacker, Judge Dearden said he hoped she would use her presence on social media to warn others of similar insults.

& # 39; She certainly won't do that. She's not that person. In the meantime, Reegan is still unable to return to work, she has been diagnosed with PTSD, she suffers quite a lot, & she said.
