Victoria Alonso left Marvel Studios after a 17-year career with the film studio in which the Marvel Cinematic Universe became the highest-grossing film franchise in history.

The 57-year-old executive left the company on Friday for reasons that were “unclear,” multiple sources said. the hollywood reporter Monday.

The Buenos Aires, Argentina-born producer initially joined the studio in 2006 as head of visual effects and post-production.

She was a co-producer on films that helped the studio grow, including 2008’s Iron Man, 2010’s Iron Man 2, 2011’s Thor, and 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger.

She served as an executive producer on the 2012 smash hit The Avengers, which grossed more than $1.5 billion and rose the studio’s profile, validating its strategy of a shared universe.

Alonso executive produced the franchise films for more than a decade, including hits like 2018’s Black Panther and the 2019 films Avengers: Infinity War and Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Alonso served as a producer on the 2022 feature Argentina, 1985, which received an Academy Award nomination for Best International Feature Film this year.

Alonso leaves the studio following disappointing commercial and critical feedback on the film Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.

Alonso has also been involved in Marvel’s efforts toward representation and spoke publicly during last year’s standoff between Disney and the state of Florida over the Don’t Say Gay bill.

At the 2022 GLAAD Media Awards, Alonso, who is openly gay, said he spoke with then-Disney CEO Bob Chapek for 45 minutes to push the company for a stronger response to the legislation, THR reported. .

“I asked him to look around and really if what we sell is family entertainment, that we don’t choose what is family friendly,” he said at the event. ‘Family is this whole room. Family is family in Texas, in Arizona, in Florida, and in my family, in my house. So I ask you again… please respect if we are selling family, take a stand against all these crazy outdated laws. Take a stand for the family.

Alonso added, “As long as I’m at Marvel Studios, I will fight for representation.”

Alonso continues to receive producing credits on upcoming films, including the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and The Marvels, and the Disney+ shows Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Echo, Ironheart, and Secret Invasion.
