Portugal manager Roberto Martinez criticized the Hampden security breach which saw Cristiano Ronaldo confront a stupid pitch invader in Tuesday night’s Nations League clash.
The fan jumped over the advertising banners and ran across the pitch towards Ronaldo, with the Portugal captain clearly alarmed.
The individual was seen carrying a smartphone and intended to take a selfie with the iconic striker, only to be belatedly escorted away by stewards.
Martínez insists it was unacceptable and dangerous, pointing out that Ronaldo being targeted is becoming a recurring theme.
Fearing for his player’s safety, Martinez said: “Unfortunately, this has happened too many times. It’s not the first time.
A pitch invader is tackled after breaching Hampden security in an attempt to reach Ronaldo.
‘During the summer European Championships we had many, many chances. Of course, we know what Cristiano brings to the game. We understand it.
“But when someone jumps onto the field with bad intentions, it’s very dangerous.” I was worried.’
In the end, Martínez became frustrated that his team could not find a way to break down the Scottish defense. He admitted Portugal wasted their final passes in the attacking third of the pitch but paid tribute to the work of his counterpart Steve Clarke in the way he organized his team.
“We played well and controlled the game,” said the Spaniard. “We reached the final third many times, but maybe we didn’t make the right pass. We lacked some precision.

‘But I would also like to give credit to Scotland. They played well and their goalkeeper also put in a good performance.
“I think Steve Clarke is building a national team that looks like a club. That’s a great compliment. Everyone works for each other. They know the structure. They are brave when they have to be. They have quick attacks and some fast players.
‘Last year they beat the European champions (Spain) not by coincidence or by accident. All credit to Steve Clarke and the coaching staff. “They are doing a great job.”
