Martin Lewis has issued a warning to all British Airways passengers, alerting them to a £117m jackpot in unredeemed e-vouchers.

More than €139 million (£117 million) worth of British Airways e-vouchers are expiring soon, and the airline’s customers must act quickly to get them, according to money-saving expert 52.

During the pandemic, the airline gave customers the ability to cancel their flights in exchange for electronic coupons to be spent at a later date.

Additionally, those whose flights were canceled were given the option of a full cash refund or e-voucher, although this is no longer available to passengers.

British Airways previously said that customers with vouchers would need to have used up their eVocuhers by April 2022, although this deadline has been extended several times.

Since this initial date was set, the airline has pushed back the deadline four times, and Martin cautioned that there is no promise to add another deadline.

Martin’s team of money-saving experts urged customers who chose the e-coupon option four years ago to check their eligibility to ensure they don’t miss out on any unused coupons.

The team urged: “The safest option is to redeem your coupon in time to ensure you don’t lose.”

The new expiration date set by the airline is September 30, 2025, and customers must have taken the flight or used up a package before this date.

Airline passengers who may have forgotten if they had any cash vouchers can quickly find out by entering their email address on the British Airways website.

If eligible, customers should expect to receive an email indicating whether they are entitled to any coupons and their amount. Emails should arrive with the subject “Your e-vouchers with British Airways” within two hours of the first sending.

The airline also encouraged customers to check their email inboxes for pending coupons.

As a last resort, travelers can find an online form on the airline’s website or call 0344 493 0787.

According to the airline’s parent company, IAG, there were at least €139 million in unredeemed vouchers at the end of 2023, although subsequent figures are not currently available.

Customers can then redeem the vouchers and use them to partially or fully pay for flights.

Up to four vouchers can also be used per new booking when making new bookings.

However, as Martin Lewis pointed out, in-flight extras cannot be purchased with the vouchers.

Additional extras, such as additional luggage and seat reservations, will be exempt.

The money-saving team also noted that British Airways Executive Club customers will also need to prepare for the change, as the changes will be made on April 1, 2025 so that passengers will earn fewer loyalty points.

It comes just two weeks after the money-saving expert made an urgent appeal to state pensioners born before 1958 to claim a free government payment of £3,900.

The money-saving expert, 52, has urged state pensioners that they could be entitled to a £3,900 annual boost from the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), although they must claim the money themselves as they cannot will arrive automatically.

Martin’s team of money-saving experts said 850,000 state pensioners are hoping to claim a whopping £1.7bn, and urged those born in 1958 or earlier (aged 66 or over) to apply.

To meet the criteria for the £3,900 payment, applicants must be single and have a total weekly income of less than £218, although the ITV and BBC team said those receiving less than £235 could also receive it.

There is also the possibility that couples have the right. For those of retirement age earning a weekly total of less than £333, the chances of billing the cash are high.

Similarly, couples earning less than £350 a week also have a good chance of qualifying for the money.

Although the cash won’t arrive automatically and will need to be claimed, according to the money-saving website.

MSE warned: ‘It is NOT automatic, so you MUST claim; that’s how it’s done. You can apply via Gov.uk if you have already claimed your state pension; Otherwise, call the Pensions Service on 0800 99 1234 (or the Northern Ireland Pensions Center on 0808 100 6165). You can go back three months, so the sooner you check, the quicker you’ll benefit.’
