Manchester United's agent, former Anthony Martial, says he does NOT agree with a new long-term contract with the club.
United confirmed on Monday that they have accepted their option to extend the deal with the France International for a year, so that its contract now runs until 2020.
However, in conversation with French TV, the representative of Martial, Philippe Lamboley, said that the extension was actually activated in October and that the talks about a new deal were anything but convincing.
Manchester United has activated an option on a one-year extension to Anthony Martial's deal
The new extension of the 23-year-old French attacker will see him stay at Old Trafford until 2020
& # 39; I am very pessimistic about the positive result, & # 39; said Lamboley to RMC.
& # 39; They have already sent us several offers that do not meet our expectations, starting with bases that are far from our wishes. We are still far from agreed. & # 39;
United signed Martial from Monaco for an initial £ 36m in 2015, making him the most expensive teenager in the world at the time.
But his agent insists that the Frenchman does not come closer to a long-term agreement to remain in the club
The Red Devils want to protect their investment and activating an extra year on their contract does not come as a surprise.
It's a trick that used the Old Trafford outfit regularly – with David de Gea the most recent example last month.
There are still ongoing talks between Martial representatives and the club hierarchy about a new contract – one separate from the Monday extension.
Before the start of this term, it was feared that Martial could have left the transfer window in the summer after a pre-season spat with Jose Mourinho about the rise of his child that was born.
Martial has scored eight goals this season – including this strike in a 2-2 draw against Arsenal
However, Martial has proven his worth to the much maligned manager by scoring eight goals in 19 games in all leagues for the club.
His strikes were also largely decisive – and contributed to the league victories against Newcastle, Everton and Bournemouth and also against Chelsea and Arsenal.
The news about the 23-year-old will be a positive among United supporters in an otherwise bleak campaign – with Martial being a fervent fan favorite.
