So when a bed-and-breakfast owner in the U.K. started promoting her business on social media, she recruited her Gen Z daughter to help her navigate the lingo used by the TikTok generation.
The owner of Fyfield Manor, near Wallingford in Oxfordshire, took to TikTok to post a promotional video showcasing the history and architecture of the 880-year-old B&B.
However, the video included an unusual twist: The script incorporated slang terms commonly used by Generation Z, defined as those born between the mid- to late-1990s and early 2010s.
The owner, sporting a pair of Y2K sunglasses, used phrases like “rizz,” which refers to charm or romantic appeal, to describe the accommodation.
The video has racked up more than 8.5 million views in two days, with one viewer saying it was “the best marketing I’ve seen in a long time.”

The owner began the clip by highlighting the exterior of the historic bed and breakfast, saying, “our bed and breakfast is 880 years old, no limit.”
The slang term ‘capless’ is used when a person wants to convey that they are telling the truth.
The owner continued touring the gardens and said, “Do you see the garden? It gives you relaxation, it gives you zen.”
Younger generations often use the term “giving” to describe when something or someone is giving off a certain energy.
She went on to say: “The medieval dining room is very stylish.” The term rizz, which in internet slang means “romantic appeal” or charm, was chosen as the Oxford word of the year for 2023.
According to Oxford University Press, “rizz” is defined as style, charm, or attractiveness; the ability to attract a romantic or sexual partner. Linguistics experts believe it comes from a shortened version of the word charisma.
The clip incorporated Gen Z slang terms, including “menty b,” which refers to a mental breakdown.
It can also be used as a verb, in sayings like ‘to rizz up’, meaning to attract, seduce or woo someone.
The owner continued: “The Georgian panelled room understood the task,” a term used to praise a particular thing or person.
She continued: “Look how the Victorian windows let in so much light… very considered, very conscious, very demure.”
The phrase refers to a trend that is said to have been sparked by a now-viral TikTok video by American content creator Jools Lebron (known on the platform as @joolieannie).
In the clip, which has nearly four million views and 1.5 million likes, the self-described “fierce diva” encourages women to dress in a “modest, demure and respectful manner in the workplace.”
The clip has become a viral sensation, with Gen Z filming videos that include the words “very demure, very conscious.”
There seems to be no limit to what can be described as “modest and conscious,” and Gen Z uses it to glorify activities ranging from “bed-sitting” (when people spend a long period of time in bed staring at their phones) to eating chocolate cake or going for a walk.
Viewers took to the comments section to share their thoughts on the video and many were impressed.
The owner used one word to describe the bathrooms at Fyfield Manor: “stunning,” which is used to describe when something is done exceptionally well.
He concluded the video by saying, ‘Whether you need to recover from a summer of inactivity or a period of inactivity, this is the place for you.’
The summer of the brat girls refers to a trend started by singer Charli XCX, characterized by recklessness, eccentric behavior and bold attitudes.
Brats are edgy, or in the words of Charli XCX during a BBC interview, they are: “trashy. Like a pack of cigarettes and a Bic lighter. And a white strappy top. No bra. That’s all you need.”
The term “menty b” refers to a mental breakdown and is commonly used on social media.
In the caption, the owner’s Gen Z daughter added: “I can confirm that she didn’t understand a word he said.”
The video garnered more than eight million views and viewers flocked to the comments section to share their thoughts. One said: “I will be booking my next trip for sure.”
“Absolutely brilliant. I want to stay as soon as possible to recover from my chin problem,” said a second.
