The role in Father Stu will be a sort of return to form for Wahlberg, who scored a Best Picture nomination as a producer in 2010 for the David O. Russell movie The Fighter.

Mark portrayed the titular character, boxer Micky Ward, in the film.

Father Stu is a faith-based biopic loosely based on the late father Stuart Long, who started his career as a boxer and eventually became a priest.

The film, which has been dear to Wahlberg for a number of years, was written and directed by Gibson’s girlfriend Rosalind Ross.
