The couple also have a fixed approach when it comes to talking about their children – sons Michael, 25, Joaquin, 20 and daughter Lola, 21.
“We’ve always taken the approach that if it’s something sensitive or if we think it might be sensitive, we’ll just ask the kids and we’ll always get a very straight answer!” revealed the actor.
Since Mark took over from former host Ryan Seacrest in April, the couple have already made plenty of headlines thanks to jokes about their sex life, regular revelations about their personal lives and participating in cheeky activities while filming like yoga and couples therapy.
The candid nature of the couple’s relationship was greeted with joy by many viewers, but for others the adjustment period was longer.
Opening up to some of the most negative online comments about their accommodation, Mark insisted the pair wouldn’t let them get to them.
“We’ve been doing it for so long too,” he explained. “I remember going through bags of fan mail at All My Children and people had no problem telling you if they thought you were a good or a bad actor. We are used to it.
The Husband for Hire actor continued, “People will always have opinions, but we know if we’re doing a good job or not and the ratings are the ultimate judge in the end.”

In many ways, the duo – who celebrated 27 years of marriage in May – have come full circle by returning to work together full-time on the series.
However, Mark admitted there had been moments of uncertainty over whether it would be the right decision and the pair had “a lot of conversations” about whether to join the show as co-stars. Kelly’s full-time host.

“I’m really happy that we made the decision. I had been on the road for seven years and the idea of having an anchor really appealed to me.
The actor also revealed that the gig was all the more appealing to him as it would give him the opportunity to take on specific acting roles.
“I also want to do theater and this show gives me the freedom to do that,” he noted.
For now, the star is continuing to take the new role on his stride, admitting he feels like he’s “found” his “sea feet”.
Meanwhile, the couple are working to ensure they prioritize family time now that they’re working together again.

He continued, “We don’t do anything structured, we’ll do a meal together like brunch or dinner and I usually get really nice cards, really fun cards. I’m always spoiled that day.
“I always tell Kelly not to get me a present, but she always gets me something really nice. She’s awesome.’
