- ‘We will vote to introduce Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene’s motion to vacate the presidency. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed.
- It was only Sunday that Greene, R-Ga., said Johnson’s “days are numbered” as speaker.
Democrats have made it official: They will come to President Mike Johnson’s rescue if Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene forces her motion to impeach him to the House of Representatives.
A game-changing email circulated among House Democrats on Tuesday morning, essentially deflating Greene’s headline-grabbing threat: ‘We will vote to table Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene’s motion to vacate The presidency. If she invokes the motion, it will not succeed.’
A successful vote to table the motion prevents it from going to a final vote.
Greene, in response, said she will force a vote in the House.
‘Mike Johnson is officially the Democratic Speaker of the House. Here is his official endorsement of his presidency. What disgusting secret deal did Johnson make to get Democrats’ support? she wrote in X.

“If Democrats want to elect him president (and some Republicans want to support the president chosen by Democrats), I will give them the opportunity to do so.”
‘I am a big believer in recorded votes because recording Congress on the record allows all Americans to see the truth and provides transparency to our votes. Americans deserve to see Unipartido on full display. I’m about to give them their coming out party!’

Two other Republicans, Reps. Thomas Massie, R-Ky., and Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., joined Greene’s effort after she put $60 billion in funding for Ukraine on the House floor.
Meanwhile, Democrats are offering their motion to be introduced in exchange for Johnson introducing aid to Ukraine.
“I don’t think we’re giving these things away,” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., told reporters.
‘I think the vote on aid to Ukraine has weighed heavily on many members of the group. I also think the fact that the person who introduced the motion is Marjorie Taylor Greene, which has also felt, who are we going to vote for to give our support?, which is a rock and a difficult place for many members.
Johnson told reporters that he had not spoken to Democrats about saving it and had not reached any agreement with them to do so.
“This is the first time I’ve heard of it,” he said.
But the fact that Democrats are swooping in to save a Republican president could have political implications down the road.
Asked if he felt comfortable being saved by Democrats, Johnson said, “You hope to have support from everyone, from the entire country.” …The Speaker of the House serves the entire body. “I’m a conservative Republican, a lifelong conservative Republican.”
The final override motion that ended Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s career left the House paralyzed for three weeks without a speaker. “We want to turn the page,” insisted the president of the Democratic Caucus, Pete Aguilar. “We don’t want Marjorie Taylor Greene to dictate the schedule.”
