Parents are outraged that a naked photo of a student allegedly stolen from his phone circulated for weeks among the community at an elite private school before concerns were raised.

A group of Marist College Ashgrove students allegedly gained access to a classmate’s iPhone and forwarded the image, which was intended for a girl, to themselves, then distributed it widely over the Christmas holidays.

The photo was still circulating among students until last week, when a parent finally notified the school.

An anonymous parent expressed dismay at the incident.

‘My son received the photo, like many high school students, but I don’t know how far (beyond the student community) it went,’ they told the mail.

‘You pay thousands and thousands expecting your child to receive an elite education, but then you find out things like this happen.

‘The school needs to do more to keep children safe. It’s Marist’s latest scandal and the incident has made me lose faith in what we set out to do when we sent him to school.’

A school spokeswoman said the incident occurred during the holidays and immediate action was taken.

“As soon as the university was informed of the incident in February, we acted quickly to investigate the matter,” he said.

‘The students involved were counseled and their parents were informed.

“All child protection processes were also implemented, including notification to all relevant authorities.”

There were conflicting reports about whether police had been contacted about the incident.

Police told the publication they were not aware of the alleged incident.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Queensland Police for comment.

It comes after it emerged teachers at another Queensland secondary school posed for sexually suggestive photographs, which became a staffroom calendar.

The photos showed staff at Balmoral State High School in Brisbane posing in compromising positions, with one teacher dressed as a nun and another in a shiny gold mankini with her legs spread.

A whistleblower raised concerns about the calendar after a staff complaint in December resulted in a denial of its existence.

One photo shows a teacher dressed in a gold mankini bending over on all fours, while a teacher dressed as a nun places one foot on the small of her back.

Another shows a teacher pouring a carton of milk on another teacher.

The leaked photos have sparked mixed reactions from the public, with some suggesting they cross a line, while others say they shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

“I don’t want to be a prude… they’re probably having a bit of fun,” Queensland senator Matt Canavan said on Today.

“It’s probably more embarrassing for them than for anyone else.”

Nine reporter Heidi Murphy said the “worst part” was the photos being leaked out of the staff room and put “on the national stage”.

A whistleblower told the Courier Mail the calendar is evidence of a toxic culture at the school.

They also said the calendar was on desks in a staff room, where students could have seen it.

“It’s the lack of professionalism, it’s the fact that they’ve involved a nun and he’s dressed like a gay guy; it’s completely inappropriate… and totally unacceptable,” they said.

The Department of Education said it was “investigating the matter” but “does not comment on individual employee matters.”

He added that the school said no students or their parents had been shown the calendar.
